Tested, selected and fielded by a specialized group within the U.S. DoD for its multipurpose combat rifle program, the versatile 6mm ARC does much of what larger cartridges can and everything that smaller cartridges can’t. Designed to meet the needs of the world’s toughest critics, the 6mm ARC utilizes efficient, high-BC bullets to deliver unprecedented performance from the AR-15 platform. Commercial 6mm ARC offerings will feature bullets selected to deliver ideal performance for hunting, match shooting and personal protection applications. |

They accomplished what the 6XC was suppose to do but without the high end pressures of the XC. Amazing how simply adjusting the neck angle has such a dramatic effect on pressure. But buyer beware!! It is a very new cartridge and may possibly hold this spot or could be another flash in the pan. They are trying to get 243 performance in a AR platform. So in a bolt gun it makes sense to stay with the 243. I am collecting parts for a new comp bolt rifle and am torn between the 243 and the 270. The 243 is absolutely the round to beat but with the harsh wear from the neck angle (and I don't want the headache of an improved) I am leaning strong toward the 270. The 130gr bullet will be the ideal weight for my goals. If I do choose the 243 the 118 dtac will be the pill. I will probably get a 6mm ARC upper and see how it performs also.
Is it hype or is it real? time will tell........... Salute!

Looks like the real deal from the pic. Most if not all new cartridges have that “WSM” shape. It’s not surprising. The short fat cases offer a lot of advantages. PPC cartridges have used the same basic design for decades. Big, wide shoulders give you precise head space. The short, wide powder column gives you equal FPS with less powder and less recoil than longer equivalent rounds. You can also fire them out of short action rifles which equals a weight savings. The only disadvantage that’s apparent to me is that those big shoulders don’t allow the cases to camber as easily in some rifles. My Sako works great in .270 WSM. My Winchester M70 honestly sucks. It uses the .300 WSM.

The 6ARC and 6XC have the same 30-deg neck angle. The difference in max pressure isn’t related to anything more than SAAMI-established load specs. The 6ARC isn’t designed to try to do what the 6XC was designed for at all. The 6ARC is based off the .220 Russian case, same as the PPC cartridges and the 6.5 Grendel and is designed to run in the AR15. The 6XC is based off the much larger .250 Savage parent case, designed to run in the AR10 platform. The ARC doesn’t come close to duplicating .243 performance; the 6XC comes close to .243 performance. The 6 ARC is basically a “6mm Grendel.” Likewise, it’s very similar to a 6mm PPC, sharing the same case and similar capacity. It doesn’t do anything the 6.5 Grendel won’t also do. With their most efficient bullets, 6ARC shoots ever so slightly flatter, the 6.5 Grendel has slightly more energy. Both are flat shooting and both will handle the exact same chores. If one already has a Grendel, the 6ARC covers no new ground. That said, I still think it’s a cool round and has a valid niche for the shooter who loads for other 6mm rounds, wants to shoot an efficient 6mm in an AR15 and doesn’t already have a Grendel.

Hey, I understand completely Jason! I have lots of redundancies in my rifle arsenal simply because I wanted another rifle at the time!

Any of y’all’s many Grendels LaRue ARs? Mine should arrive in the next week or so. Wondering what y’all think of them. Good price on the ultimate upper kit which includes everything except the stripped lower. Ordered a billet lower from them as well and received it separately because that’s the FFL part.

I don't own one, but most of the feedback I have ever read on LaRue is positive. I bet it will be a fine AR.
