It appears that Conor McGregor is returning to the boxing ring, calling out "Money"Mayweather, again. No news yet on if the fight will take place, but it seems likely... McGregor made at least $120M off their initial bout (though he has had some significant legal expenses since then and probably needs the money) and Mayweather reportedly cleared over $200M. I can't see this opportunity being turned down by any involved. AND... it will probably be one of the premier bouts of the 21st Century... two finely honed athletes at their absolute prime competing once again for a World Title. I expect an improvement over the last fight (though thereis little room... it was so spectacular it almost looked choreographed)...delivering a fight that will be held in awe for an inestimable length of time. I am certain the sportscasters and writers will be able to come up with new forms of language to heap praise upon this event... should it take place.
As I said, McGregor NEEDS the money, Mayweather LOVES (only) the money... what more could an admiring public ask for than the opportunity to spend their hard earned money to view a fight that will historically challenge all the great fights before... and after.. and enrich the bank accounts of two such deserving heroes... heroes of the people. It is sad that stadiums for such events are so small. What we need for this is a stadium much like the Roman Colosseum scaled up for a world presence that this event will demand. Think of the headlines... "McGregor vs Mayweather II in the WORLD COLOSSEUM" (announced by Michael Buffer... of course). I've already started a separate savings account to pay the inevitable PRIME fee for Pay Per View for this event if the stadium is not ready. With all the effort I know McGregor will devote to his boxing skills in preparation, and the still razor-edge skills of Mayweather, who could possibly refuse themselves the chance to see this once in a millennium event??? The boxing world is preparing for history... I know I'll be there... either at the World Colosseum or Pay Per View... I wouldn't miss it for the world... |

Seriously? Neither one is in his prime or close to it.
I thought the first fight was a joke and the second one will be more of the same. Outside of a puncher's luck in the first round, McGregor has about as much of a chance of beating Mayweather in a boxing match and Mayweather has of winning a Nobel price. While neither one is in need of money, this would be a very nice and easy payday for both of them, so it might happen. I am willing to pay as much for the second fight as I am for the first fight. Zero. I am still thinking of sending their promoters an invoice to be compensated for the time I spent watching the first fight. ILya

Last time I paid to see a fight was Roberto Duran versus Sugar Ray Robinson, on the big screen at the local fairgrounds.
Now that fight was worth paying for.

Any TRUE devotee of "the sweet science" would pay whatever the cost to view this historical, historically spectacular, potentially legendary event. Missing the opportunity to see these two magnificent specimens battle to the utmost, giving their all without any concern for their own safety... reminiscent of the Ali-Frazier fights... just seems almost sacrilegious.
You say they are beyond their prime and yet their devotion to training, their unprecedented regimen is "nonpareil". I pray you come to your senses... you stand to miss the defining boxing event of a lifetime...

Well, I am very much a devotee of "the sweet science", but aside from that you are flat out wrong on every word of your post. I know a lot of people who box and train boxers and a good number who are looking to go pro. I do not know anyone other than you who thinks this is anything more than publicity stunt.

Just look at the progress Conor McGregor made for the first fight... going from a near boxing amateur to one of the most admired and respected pugilists in the game in such a brief period of time... a skilled master, worthy of the $120+M dollar prize he earned AND a second shot at the GLORY. Think of what he had to endure to reach that height. Just imagine, having come so close, how much more effort he will expend, how much more pain he will endure in his quest to prove he is THE BEST. And Floyd "Money" Mayweather... fighting for his record AND, once again, the biggest payday of any figher's career. Surely, surely... you jest...

I do not think you and I were watching the same fight. Conor has superb boxing for MMA. That is not the same thing as boxing under boxing rules. Not even close. I do not know what progress you are talking about. He is one of the best... MMA fighters. Chances are that the time when he could prove he is the best in any fighting discipline is behind him now. He is the best at self-promotion of all the MMA fighters, that is damn near certain. Floyd is 42. He is a decade past his prime and he is not going to get any better with time. Only worse. He is easily one of the best technical fighters I have seen to date and, being a smart guy that he is, the only chance McGregor has of winning this fight, is if the pay Floyd enough to take a fall in hopes of makign a bajillion or two for the third fight. These two in the same boxing ring is an abomination, just like it would be the reverse kind of abomination if the were both in the UFC cage. In other words, you are still wrong. ILya

Using capital letters does not make you any less mistaken.
I suggest you pop your contacts back in and go re-watch the first fight. ILya

I have the first fight recorded... watch it regularly for things to imitate. It never changes though... still a masterpiece in the boxing art history... I'm not sure we will ever see its like again. UNLESS, of course, we get M&M II. Unlike most of you guys... I don't wear or need contacts or glasses.

OK you convinced me. I will try to re-watch the fight the same way you watch it: contacts out and 12 drinks into it. Maybe I will come to the same conclusions. Which reminds me: The Maltman Springbank 19 is now my favourite single malt ever. Bar none. Maybe a few drams of that will alleviate the pain and anguish I am likely to experience from watching that abomination of a fight again. ILya

I've definitely got to give that a try... I must say, ILya, a new on on me.
You are always welcome to watch it here... I'm certain that with a wee bit of the water of life we can come to some agreement on the grand spectacle that M&M I was and the improvements of M&M II. I still have an unopened bottle of Usquaebach.

I think my liver will explode if I try to drink enough booze to make the second fight tolerable.
