I'm looking for recommendations on shooting sticks. Deer hunting mostly. I tend to sit on half my hunts(ground or ridge, not tree stand guy) , and stalk on the other. Should I buy something like the Primos trigger, or more the traditional African style, or make my own (if so recommendations on material). Main problem with buying is they are made for average joe. Well my breed is sasquatch size so. So I'm worried most market stuff be to short.

They work well for me, I'm 6'7" They extend to 68" They make a cheaper version that actually extends a bit further to 72" Not sure of the quality.

Half the guys in our club use the Primos - Jim Shockey gen3 tripod trigger stick, they seem to work well. The other half including me use a Harris bipod. |

6'9"
I have held the Trigger sticks in store, they seem functional, but I think they might be a tad short for me. I've not had a rifle to actually lay on them and do practice position. Otherwise they seem very practical if going from standing to kneeling or sitting. I liked the speed and easy to level.
SVT how do you like those, is that flip levers? How much do they weigh? |

The Bog-Pod CLD 3 is listed at 40oz on their site.
Flip levers work fine, hold up well even using heavy tactical style guns with all the "extras"

Most of the guys I hunt with use something like this, a couple have made a home made version. I can constantly hit a 6 inch at 300m with them.

I cannot hit even a sasquatch size target off shooting sticks. I will rather shoot offhand then use sticks. A while ago the guide wanted to know where my shootings sticks were, so I pumped up my left and right biceps and said "There they are". |

My dad has a set of shooting sticks/tripod. Mossback is the brand, they are 3 sticks held together towards the top with a big piece of rubber and all 3 stick come up. I don't use them much, but I do like they way the 3 sticks hold the rifle. You can really get a good grip with it and it keeps your rifle from rolling side to side at all. A couple hunts ago we were on a ridge shooting at rocks out to 900 yards and was using his tripod. I could hold very steady with it. I just don't have a set as I don't want the extra weight, but at times they would be nice to have.

I have an old crappy manfrotto with a reaper grip I use for practice , but is not practical for hunting. I do plan on getting a compact feisol to use for ridge sitting. But for stalkinguits not practical.
I'll read more on the bog ones. The viper also. Those look really interesting.
