Have ya'll seen this e-mail going around?  Years ago Citgo gas was blamed for a lot of engine problems.  If this email is true, then there is really no reason to get gas at Citgo....regardless of how cheap it is.

Venezuela Dictator Vows To Bring Down U.S. Government

Venezuela government is sole owner of Citgo gasoline company

Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez has vowed to bring down the U.S. government. Chavez, president of Venezuela, told a TV audience: "Enough of imperialist aggression; we must tell the world: down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century."

The guest on his television program, beamed across Venezuela , was Cindy Sheehan, the antiwar activist. Chavez recently had as his guest Harry Belafonte, who called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world."

Chavez is pushing a socialist revolution and has a close alliance with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

Regardless of your feelings about the war in Iraq , the issue here is that we have a socialist dictator vowing to bring down the government of the U.S. And he is using our money to achieve his goal!

The Venezuela
government, run by dictator Chavez, is the sole owner of Citgo gas company. Sales of products at Citgo stations send money back to Chavez to help him in his vow to bring down our government.

Take Action

Please decide that you will not be shopping at a Citgo station. Why should U.S. citizens who love freedom be financing a dictator who has vowed to take down our government?

Must be true, because Dallas based 7-11 has dropped them.

7-Eleven drops Venezuela's Citgo as gas partner

Source: Decision was made before Hugo Chavez called Bush 'the devil'

DALLAS - 7-Eleven Inc. is dropping Venezuela-backed Citgo as its gasoline supplier after more than 20 years as part of a previously announced plan by the convenience store operator to launch its own brand of fuel.

7-Eleven officials said Wednesday that the company’s decision was partly motivated by politics.

Citgo Petroleum Corp. is a Houston-based subsidiary of Venezuela’s state-run oil company and 7-Eleven is worried that anti-American comments made by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez might prompt motorists to fill-up elsewhere.

Chavez has called President George W. Bush the devil and an alcoholic. The U.S. government has warned that Chavez is a destabilizing force in Latin America.

“Regardless of politics, we sympathize with many Americans’ concern over derogatory comments about our country and its leadership recently made by Venezuela’s president,” said 7-Eleven spokeswoman Margaret Chabris.

“Certainly Chavez’s position and statements over the past year or so didn’t tempt us to stay with Citgo,” she added.

Instead, 7-Eleven, which sells gasoline at 2,100 of its 5,300 U.S. stores, will now purchase fuel from several distributors, including Tower Energy Group of Torrance, Calif., Sinclair Oil of Salt Lake City, and Houston-based Frontier Oil Corp.

Chabris said 7-Eleven’s decision to sell its own brand was based on many factors, including Citgo’s decision this summer to stop supplying stations in parts of Texas and other states to focus on retailers closer to its refineries in Corpus Christi, Lake Charles, La., and Lemont, Ill.

But 7-Eleven had been considering creating its own brand of fuel since at least early last year, and some analysts suggested 7-Eleven may now be hyping the political angle a way to curry favor with U.S. consumers.

“This has nothing to do with Chavez,” said Oil Price Information Service director Tom Kloza. “They (7-Eleven) just didn’t want to be tied to one supplier.”

Kloza said all 7-Eleven did was seek out suppliers who could sell it the cheapest fuel and “that was not Citgo.”

Citgo spokesman Fernando Garay declined to comment on whether Chavez’s comments had a bearing on 7-Eleven’s change in suppliers. He said the break was “a mutual agreement of the two companies.”

Garay said 7-Eleven was a “significant” part of Citgo’s retail presence in Texas and Florida. “It was a valued relationship,” he said.

In fact, a source familiar with the talks said the companies to end their gasoline supply relationship about two months ago, well before Chavez's “devil” comment.

The on-going war of words between Chavez and Bush may have played a role in 7-Eleven’s decision to end the contract, which expires next week, but the Chavez speech was not the cause, the source said.

In July, Citgo decided to stop distributing gasoline to 1,800 independently owned U.S. stations because it was a lackluster segment of its business.

In order to meet service contracts at 13,100 Citgo-branded stations across the U.S., Citgo had to purchase 130,000 barrels a day from third parties — a less profitable business model than selling gasoline directly from its refineries.

Citgo was founded in 1910 as the Cities Service Co., according to the company Web site, and 7-Eleven’s predecessor, The Southland Corp., bought Citgo from Occidental Petroleum in 1983.

7-Eleven sold half its interest in Citgo in 1986 and the remaining stake in 1990 to Petroleos de Venezuela SA.

Unfortunately, we are the largest consumer for Venezuelan oil.   It would be interesting to see how Venezuela would do if stopped buying oil from it.

However, I would really love to see the following: US withdraw from UN and throw those clowns out of New York.

Chavez suggested that UN should move to Venezuela.  Well, that's the only thing he and I agree on.

As for hatred, SVD666, having lived elsewhere, for half of my life, I can tell you with a considerable degree of certainty:  the hatred is for America and Americans, not specifically for US Government.  The hatred was there before Bush and will still be there after Bush.  He is not the best president we've ever had, but he is certainly in the upper half.  So far the only thing that made people like America was the death of 3000 people during the 9/11.  That laste for about five minutes and the world went back to hating us before all the bodies were removed from the site of the attack.

The world hates America because of our success and our wealth and because there are still people here who reject Socialism (USA is the most capitalist country in the world and is still about 50% socialist).  A most common sentiment in Europe is that US is wealthy because it exploits other countries (the concept is straight out of Marx's works and yes I've read them).  Their welfare society does not believe in generating wealth.  They do not understand that you have to work your ass off to become successful; they think that everyone is entitled to success whether they work hard or not.  Therefore, they think that they deserve our success without working for it.  They believe in redistribution of wealth.

The rest of the world, can shove it as far as I am concerned.

This is not a popularity contest.  If they do not like us, it is their problem.  If they try to kill us (as they have tried) we will kill them first.  If they try to use our wealth against us, we should stop doing business with them.

I love the US but this whole religion thing going on evrywhere including the US IMHO is foolish.

I agree with Koshkin that this hatred he describes has always existed but I feel it has escalated.

I will back up the US in every way to the death when sh*t goes down but I will not back up any

god, profhet, etc. Sorry this is just my opinion and I know it is not a popular one but it is honest.

That's a really funny emoticon, mwyates.  I do not think I've seen that one before.

SVD666, which religion are you talking about?  I do not think the US Army is defending any particular religion.

Religion and politics should probably be avoided here, but...

two prophets have said

"Do not speak to a fool, for he will scorn the wisdom of your words."

and

"A man's got to believe in something, or he'll fall for anything".

I don't really mind that the world hates us.  After all they hate us on their soil and that's their right.  it would also seem that the world has come to understand that when they hate us on our own soil ...............................well that's a different matter entirely.

When's the last time you saw the U.S. muslim community conducting rallies on U.S. soil similar to those in the U.K?

I'm not a violent man......................................................... ......... but I could be.

Yep, nothing can ruin your fun quicker than those two subjects.  Both are a big part of my life, but there's a time and a place...it probably is time, but this ain't the place, unless we want to speculate on what kind of binoculars God likes best

Not sure about which ones God prefers, but as the official Dark Lord of Optics (as annointed by cheaptrick) I am fairly confident that down in the abyss high quality porros with their superior resolution, depth of focus and light transmission rule!

Nikon Superior E, Fjinon FMTR-SX, Minox BD porros reign supreme!!!

Amen on the porros.  The Dark Lord of Optics is worthy of praise for his opinion there.

Wouldn't that statement condemn the low light performance of Leupold scopes?
I suppose they just do not work all that well ... in the dark
