Beware that HORNADY 308 AMERICAN WHITETAIL AMMO now has crimped in primers. There is no info on the box and after a broken decapping pin and a couple mangled primers , I examined the cases and saw the telltale crimp ring. I then called Hornady technical assistance and they told me I could either buy empty cases or a primer reaming tool. It seems weird that a company founded on reloading would crimp primers on sporting ammunition. Save yourself the bother and added work and expense by buying Winchester, Federal ,or Remington ammo. It seems like Hornady has forgotten their roots and now caters to the black rifle crowd.

My nasty, suspicious mind says they want you to buy fresh brass and / or they are worried about the cases standing up to repeated firings...

It's ironic that a company built on reloading, would produce factory ammo that has problems with reloading.

Appears they are now crimping (has been happening for a while) military calibers. I am sure it is a safety concern by lawyers to protect hornady from lawsuits.

I had some and my RCBS dicrimping die, or whatever you call it, does a fine job of dealing with it.

they make a pocket swage to use on a press -- works good on military cases, the hand reamer works good too, if you can get the primer " out easley ". I have not seen any new crimped stuff. vin
