My father had a Model 61. It was the first rifle I ever pulled a trigger on. I was way too young to actually do more than that, though...

I also had a Remington 572 Fieldmaster....and eventually a Winchester 62...along with the Winchester 61.
I had an old Winchester 62A....it had a spectacular wood grain in the buttstock! But I still preferred the Model 61! My gun's wood was even better than this example! The rifle was only about 85%....but the wood was amazing... |

My Model 61 was grooved on top...it was from the late fifties or early sixties....I got it from a guy in Douglas, Wyoming who was trying to UPGRADE his Winchester collection! The gun was 99% perfect! ( I paid the incredible sum of $400 for it in 1981! ) Naturally, it's Gone With The Wind now! |

I now have a spectacular Winchester Model 75 Sporter ( grooved on top! ) from 1957! It's 98% gorgeous with super wood! I need to scope it. As you can see the receiver is REAL SHORT! I will have to get a Picatinny rail for it that will fit grooves....because there is No Way I am going to drill a HOLE in this rifle! * these are Internet pictures. Incredibly MY RIFLE is serial number 87500 ! Here is one from Hawke.... Here is their LONGEST one! |

There's no way I could afford an old Model 52....so I got Winchester's next best 22....which they discontinued in 1958. |

I've always had a thing for pump action .22s too. I like the 1890, and 1906 Winchesters for some reason. Maybe because I bought a worn out 1906 from a friend of mine in high school. I just loved the monkey motion of the action, and the break down of the rifle. My brother rebuilt the rifle for me, but it took him about 45 years to get it right. He almost gave it to one of my grand nephews, but I mentioned how much I liked his Belgian Hi Power, and he got the 1906 back to me. Right now I'm looking for a Rossi, or Tauras copy of the 1906/62A in 22 Magnum for a farm rifle.

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.
