Yes I agree that the 6.5x55 Swede is a well kept secret, and I have seen an old friend out shoot 308 sniper rifles with a 6.5 Swedish Mauser. The advantage of the 6.5 Creed over the Swede is the shorter cartridge that can fit in many 308 based actions, including some semi-auto actions. A good supply of 6.5 Swede at a good price would be nice too. Hmmm, a 1917A1, or 1918 Vickers in 6.5 Swede would be really interesting. |

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

What is it with some people and .308W action lengths? ;) Interesting you mention 1917. I really fancy a pairing of an M1917 in .30-06 (A Winchester maybe) and a S&W 1917 in .45ACP / Auto rim |

You must be talking about the Pattern 1917 Enfield that supplemented the 1903 Springfield during WWI. I'm talking about the 1917 Browning machine gun. |

I realised BF, just noting how The Dough Boys carried a lot of things with the year designation 1917 in them!

Hey, you Brits contracted with Winchester to build the P14 in .303 and we liked it so much that when the Government arsenals couldn't make enough 1903 Springfields to supply our troops, they had the P14 rechambered to 30 06 and called it the P17. There were more P17s carried by U.S. troops than 1903 Springfields.
The P17 is on my wish list. |

If licensing was less of a pain here I might well have a P17. I'm not sure why there is a nostalgia for Lee Enfields or the .303 in a bolt action - I just don't see the attraction.
Now, if someone would make a light, handy single shot in .303 Brit... |

My dad had one. Straight military. Weighed 50 lbs. He cut the wood off the forearm on the bottom ( in front of that swivel ) and all the hand guard came off, too....so he had this Monstrosity with a 26 inch barrel. He joked that he had a "floating barrel"...heh heh.... He once shot two whitetails ( running! ) out of a bunch of five bounding deer, out in our back pasture on the farm in Pennsylvania....peep sights, of course! Four shots----two deer....it was Doe Season....there were five of us in the group! |

Speaking of wolves, when I was a kid on the farm I saw way more gray fox than red foxes! |

Nowadays the East is buried in Eastern Coyotes! The were very rare indeed when I was a kid. Also, Pennsylvania is up to their necks in Black Bears! Again...they were rare in the sixties! |
