I did a search and this topic has been brought up before, but it's been a while so figured I'd double check.
Got a fixed 10X SS scope in November. Love the scope, but noticed recently the set screws on my turret knob gets loose after a range session. I am using the after market zero stops, but that shouldn't be an issue? Anyway, is this something I should contact SWFA to get new knobs, or add a little nail polish as some have suggested in the past? I'm still developing loads and have had to re-zero the elevation a couple times....... Thoughts?

If I recall correctly, there are 2 or 3 set screws, right? I would say the weakest lok-tite will fix you right up, I think it is the blue. Do not use rock-set or red or any of the hard core stuff, but blue should be fine. I have had a few of the 10X, have never had this issue, but have never run the shims either - not that it should matter. On what rifle is the scope? I've seen these on 50 cals and 338s without failure, so unless you have it on a 155 howitzer, this should be a fixable thing.

A dab of clear nail polish seems to be best here, easy to chip off and doesn't gum up the threads, especially with you still re-zeroing.

I have 10xHD... it's been on .22, .243, 7mmRemMag, 7mmSTW, .308, 30-06, .338 Lapua and .50BMG. Never have seen such a thing. I even let Bigdaddy use it and it still works.

So is that an endorsement of the 10X SS or a slam of freediver?

The HD has a different way to lock the turret vs the classis that he is using, so not really applicable.
I would just call SWFA and ask for a new turret instead of bandaiding it. SWFA has excellent warranty service on those scopes. |

I'll give them a call. This is on a 6.5 CM, so far from a heavy slamming round. It's also on a rifle that total weight is around 12 lbs.....
I'm honestly not slamming the SS scope at all, I love it. Just a minor issue with the turret screws loosening.

If you tighten them down snug then they shouldn't back off. You won't mess it up getting them snug. This is usually the case in these scenarios. People are scared to torque on them. If that doesn't fix it, please contact me.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread... When you tighten-down the set-screws on the turrets, do you just place it on the brass fixture, or do you push it down as low as it can go? There's slight resistance (feels like compression) when you push it down as low as it can go. Thanks
