Just seeing if anyone has had problems with their Conquest failing. Mainly, failure to hold zero due to recoil.
I'm reading on line about various failures taking place lately. Koshkin has mentioned it on another thread too.
My first Conquest went TU on a Sako .300 Win mag after 200-300 or so rounds. Second one performed very well until I sold the rifle and scope. I would venture to guess 500 rounds with no issues.
I still recommend the scope and the company. As we have said many times, anything mechanical can and will break eventually.
Zeiss promptly and courteously replaced the scope in about 10 days. As an aside, the Zeiss CS lady sounded knowledgeable and very.....um.... hot....
If you have a Conquest thats given you problems or know someone that has, I'd appreciate your input.

Hello Cheap
3 reports on magnums and two issues observed at the range on magnums. Alot of people do not know how to properly mount scopes here in California, first issue at the range was clearly a inproperly mounted scope second was hard to tell but it gave out to a 300 wthby mag after only 60 rounds (the person stated). When I first handled this scope right away I noticed great glass but so an so construction, I was about to buy one anyway until I read a post when I first joined the OT by Dale Clifford stating all the plastic parts the Conquest has and his problems he had. My opinion is that you can get a much better scope for just a little more money when it comes to the Conquest. I have never seen a euro Zeiss fail even with improper mounting.

Thanks SVD666!! Appreciate your imput!!
Yeah, Dale Clifford has railed on the plastic turret's and turret caps for many moons now. I have even emailed Zeiss and told them that the plastic turrets/caps sucked.
With that said, the hunting version, non target model Conquest is a "set it and forget it" turret. By that I mean, most guys who buy these scopes zero them in at the range when they get them and that's about it.
I wish Dale would come by and post more. Seems like forever since he has handed me my ass for recommending Badger Ord. rings...... |

Well, specifically that the guts let loose. They have etched reticles, so the reticles aren't breaking.
I'm reading every now and again on some other gun sites that peoples Conquest failed due to recoil. Then on the same thread someone will say, "Yeah, mine did too" "Mine failed after 50 rounds too" You know. Maybe it's like SVD stated, maybe they were mounted improperly.
I should give a shout out to the Optics Goddess. See if she's getting a lot of returns on Conquest's, and if so why.
My local gunshops all claim that the Conquest's are holding up, and one even said that he wasn't surprised when MY Conquest broke.... But, stated that mine was the only one he had seen fail. |

IMO, any scope that you pay more than 400$ for should last you lifetime without failure. Mine is on a light rifle that I use for hunting, and I have only put about 100 rds through the gun. It could still fail... But then maybe I will get to talk the cs lady with the sexy voice

I have 6 mounted on rifles right now. Never had a problem. But, I don't have any on magnums. They have worked just fine on a .35 Whelen and a 9.3x62. I just wish they would make a 1-4x24 model and I would mount that on a .375. They are the best sub $1,000 scope made!

Well, they do make a 1.8-5.5x38 Conquest now. If you get it with a #4 reticle, that would be a fine choice for a 375H&H.

Well I was going to order the Conquest today but after reading this I am less inclined. The last thing I want is a problamatic product. I guess I may purchase a Bushnell 4200.

SC.......... I can't remember what you are going to put this on, but if its not a magnum, I wouldn't change based on just this info.

Not so fast....
Guys, this thread is NOT trying to throw the Conquest under the proverbial bus, on the contrary. There's no bigger advocate of the Conquest than me....As many of you know. All I'm trying to find out is this...Are the Conquest failing at an abnormal rate.
At this point in time I would have to say no, or it's inconclusive at best.
SC, I would highly encourage you to go ahead and get the Conquest, IF that's what you had your heart set on.
The Optics Goddess PM'd me a told me that as far as she knows, the Conquest's are holding up fine. Nothing bad to report at this time.

All right. I'll write a letter to Zeiss asking that, in order to resolve this discussion, they have to introduce a 1-4x24, pronto.
I strongly suspect that they will politely suggest that I take a hike in some undisclosed direction, though. ILya |

I that that they will simply tell you to head in the same general undisclosed direction. On a different note, do you currently have any 1-4x scopes? if yes, which ones? Have you had a chance to look at the Burris Euro DIamond 1-4x24? ILya |

Sunny day today in California and I spent most of it at the range, all time record high of 6 Conquest shooters and I am happy to report not I failure and exellent performance and comments from the shooters one of the scopes had almost 1000 300 win mag 190gr rounds stated and shooter was very very happy. There was not a whole lot of clicking going on just steady shooting at 200 yds. last note the fine coating on the conqurest cut the sunny glare very well and provided exellent images. |

Just out of curiosity what is the Conquest rated for? My first thought was .50-ok because of the laser etched reticle, whats the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?

Anthony I would have to agree with cheap on his quote, but at the same time I would pass on a heavy mag, lets say 300 wthby and above.
