Who makes the charging handle on that rifle? Love the hand guard.
Nice write up. Unit looks way clunky.

It does look clunky, I will grant you that.
I think that is a Raptor charging handle. The handguard is going to be my go to choice going forward. ILya |

Yesterday, for me, was one of those days where everyone - by the end - was afraid to say "it can't get worse", but it just kept getting worse. And, in all that, I got my UH-1 late last night. So before I went to bed, I played with it for awhile (the UH-1. That was a strangely worded sentence, don't make it weird!) It is clunky and bulky but not particularly heavy. I need to warm to the reticle, but do like the multiple aiming points and the very generous FoV - and mostly like that it ain't Eotech and that Vortex stands behind their stuff like no one else in the red dot/holosight game. Range testing to commence shortly. More to follow. Carry on.

I was looking at one… my wife said "that looks clumsy… why would you want one".
I actually kind of like what I saw. Interested in your range report RC...

For me, it is interesting to see how it compares in use next to modern reflex sights. With reflex sights for a carbine, to me, the best if the breed is Shield SIS.
UH-1 and SIS take very different approaches, so to me this is a lot of fun. Full size red dot sights, in my opinion, are obsolete, but a full size holosight is a different animal entirely, especially if you are thinking of using a magnifier some day. ILya |

I've added Suarez sights to it since and took off TLR6 (it is heading toward Ebay). It is a nice light/laser combo, but I think I am going to stick with separate flashlight in the off hand. ILya

Lasers are like red dots on a handgun: you have to re-train, re-learn. I have one pistol with a laser, it is the one my wife prefers, and it is train rather than re-train.
UH-1 on the range shortly. It is on an SBR right now, I do like the concept of the reticle, will see how well it works in practice. |

I am not big on lasers on handguns, to be honest. TLR-6 was there primarily to have a flashlight, but I really do not like the idea of a flashlight that I can not operate with the firing hand without getting my finger off the trigger and shifting my grip. ILya

Is there a link that explains the reticle?

I have a diagram with dimensions in my write-up.
Is that what you are looking for? ILya

I have seen the diagram with the subtensions. But I was looking for an explanation of the function of the reticle. The only thing I have seen says that the dot is for 25yds and beyond. And the triangle at the bottom is for 10yds and under.

That's mostly it.
The exact distances where you use the dot vs the triangle depend on your sight in. The way I sighted it in, the triangle is useful at distances closer than 20 yards. The triangle is there for quick center-of-mass hits at close distances and for headshots close up. The center dot gives you precision further out. The circle naturally draws your eye to the center where the dot is. The little hashes that stick out to the sides are mostly there to give you some sort of a cant indicator. You can do rudimentary rangefinding using the circle: a typical standing human that fills the circle is at ~100 yards; for half the circle, it is ~200 yards. There are some other tricks you can play by lining up your target between the dot and vertice fo the triangle. It is not terribly precise, but it works. ILya

Thanks ILya. I just wasn't sure if there was more to it than that.
