Hi,
Over the past six months have acquired a LH XLR chassis and a custom LH Tikka 243 rifle.

Have been going round and round on the scope choice for this rifle.

Leppys,Vortex, Burris, Sightron, ect. ect.

All in the $800-1000 range new.

Noticed the Military Steiner scopes but at close to $2500 a little out of my ball park!

Well I do keep my eyes open and lucked up into a near LNIB used, Steiner Military 4X16X50 scope!

This scope just checked all the boxes for me!

Mil Dot, FFP, Illumination, Zero Stop, Excellent Glass, 34 MM Main Tube, Rugged, just everything I wanted!

This is my first REAL quality scope and can't wait to try it out.

Was wondering if anyone here has experience with this line of scopes and maybe some recommendations on rings for it?

Good deal!

Seekins rings are good to go. As are others.

Hi,
      Thanks!

Is there any reason to go with STEEL rings....

Or will aluminum work just as well?

The trick to rings is not go with crappy.  There are good steel rings and bad, there are good aluminum rings and bad.

First things first: congrats on the Tikka, awesome gun for the money, all mine have been shooters.
Next, if rings came with the rifle, throw them away, they are a great example of crappy aluminum rings.

Most of my Tikkas wear Talley lightweight rings, I like the attachment - via screwing in to the top "rail" rather than clamping to it.  If it is a hunter and you wish to save weight, aluminum is the way to go.  For something that might do long range, I'd top it with a rail and get 1913 rings - they are everywhere and you have MUCH more flexibility on scope position when mounting.

What model Tikka?

Hi,
       Thanks!

I have a Tikka T3 LH 243, with a 20" BRUX SS barrel threaded for a can.

It was built by "Crescent Customs" and has a EGW 20 MOA rail, Sterk swept bolt, and an aluminum shroud.

I'm using the stock trigger set at 2lbs.

Works good for me with zero creep.

It is in an XLR Chassis.

I have pics, but see no way to attach them to my post???

Probably go with STEEL, looking at the TPS offerings?

Thanks again!

TPS are good.

Good setup.

I have a 243, but mine is an AI, 10% more speed, same pressure, less brass stretching.

Hi,
Yes, the AI has good benefits!

I have a "Match" chamber.

This was a boy's "Yote Gun" out in the mid-west.

I bought the XLR Element Chassis from him asked about the barreled action and he said he would keep it.

Then a month later, he put it up for sale, and I bought it!

He was running a NF NXS on it.

I wanted a decent scope for it and finally lucked up!

I think the Tikka Rifles are a best bang for the buck out there!

Problem is, being left handed, cuts my choices on models pretty bad, in the USA.

Hi,
CheapTrick, I was looking at the aluminum Seekin's...

Noticed that the two most popular scope rings for competitive shooters (in the article I veiwed?)

Was the Badgers and the Seekins!

Thanks for the tip!

Hi,
       Wow!

I thought more people were using Steiner scopes?

I called Steiner today and talked to a nice guy about the Military line and the Tactical line.

Didn't really get that much info but they seem organized and professional!

I guess I need (50?) posts, before I can attach pics or edit???

I have all sorts of mileage with that scope, but since you already bought yours, I am not sure what you are looking for.

It is an excellent design in my experience with good glass and robust mechanics.  It is a bit on a large and heavy side, but outside of that I really liked it.

As far as rings go, I think you got some good recommendations already.

One thing that sucks about steel rings and bases is they rust.  I have had Badger, IOR, TPS, Leupold in steel and they all get surface rust easily.  My aluminum stuff from Seekins, TPS, and Talley never rust.  I almost always pick aluminum now for that reason alone.

I would pick Seekins over badger any day.  First because they are cheaper.  2nd they are so much sleeker in how they attach and 3rd they have more contact area.  (unless you buy the 3 bolt badgers Max50)  I like Seekins over many other tactical style rings for the sleekness reason.  They are just good looking rings.
Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

Hi,
Koshkin, thanks, I guess you are right, I already bought it, I just wanted to be enforced in the decision I made to buy this scope.

Even though I bought used, it was still a lot of money to me, to put on a scope, but wanted something nice for this rifle.

I read and enjoy your reviews and thanks very much for sharing your knowledge and thoughts!

Supertool, you have helped me with one of the biggest questions I had about rings for this scope....

That was, Aluminum or Steel, I think I will go the Seekins Aluminum now.

Only a 243 rifle, so not a lot of recoil!

I'm a Badger homer, but I love the Seekins sleek design better.

Hi,
Yes, I have yet to hear anything bad about the Seekin's Rings?

They look to go about $140 for the 34MM size.

Might wait for Black Friday and see what I can pick up a pair for?

Is there a place where you guys buy rings from for a good price, or...

Just look when you need them on the Internet?

Hi,
Well...No price savings, but I might check back on BF!

A Host is a Host, I guess!

I was going to go Med. height?

I have not the scope yet, or access to my rifle (work out of town!)
