Meopta makes both a 3-9x40 and a 3-9x42. I see the 42mm has a little wider field of view. Is there anything else that makes one better than the other?

The 40 replaced the 42, so the 42 is older stock. Both are nice scopes. The 3-9x40 has a slightly more flexible eye relief.

Just an FYI, but for any visitors from EU/ROW, the MeoPro 3-9x42 is still manufactured ad sold by Meopta, just not in North America due to preference for the 3-9x40.
Yes I work for Meopta, but I am not here to sell Meopta. Just answering questions and providing reasonable insight.

I find that absolutely incredible... but according to your spec sheet, if it is correct, the x40 does seem to have a slight advantage (except in adjustment range).

The two scopes are designed differently, on nearly equal levels, but different designs nonetheless.

It is not simply a matter of a 42mm objective versus 40mm.

Fully understand that.  Just don't understand why the 42mm would be so unpopular in the US that selling it here is not profitable.
