Hi,
I`m hunting sometimes in very low light or even at night, please help me to find the best low light scope for 500-700$ with 2,5-10,3-12 or 3,5-10 power.
My Rifle is Steyr Manlicher cal 25-06 rem and I want to hunt with it on evrything from fox to wild boar.
My favorites are:
Leupold VX III 3,5-10x50 Illuminated
Bushnell 4200 2,5-10x50 Fire fly or ILLUMINATED
Burris Euro Diamond 3X–12X–50mm ILLUMINATED
Wich one is the best?
Thanks!

100JAN:

I'm not that big of fan of the Illuninated recticals because in darkness they tend to be too bright and wash out the target.  In my opinion your better off with good glass the pulls light in and not rely much on the illuminated recticle.

That being said all three scopes have good glass and are illuminated. For the scopes listed I would rate them the following.

1. Burris euro Diamond

2. Bushnell 4200 (although I like the fact that this goes down to 2.5 power) firefly is nice as well

3. Leupold VXII not really any better then the other two, infact I'd give the others the edge in being a bit better in opics and leupolds usually cost more.

If you could live without the illuminated, I'd also through a standard Kahles in the mix and the zeiss conquest.

Good luck

Of those you listed, I'd rate them (from best to "worst"):

1) Bushnell 4200;

2) Burris EuroDiamond;

3) Leupold

I agree that Kahles is going to be a hard line to top when it comes to light gathering ability (so long as we're not talking about their American Hunter line, which is good but not great).  Also, the IOR Fixed 6x recommended is very good for your intended usage.

Best of luck to you.

What about the Bushnell 4200 2.5-10 in the 30 mm tube and the illuminated reticle?  I am a huge fan of the 4200 series in general but I also am a huge fan of Swarovski and Zeiss!  For the money, it's hard to beat the 4200's.  I also own a Swarovski A-Line 4-12x50, and let me tell you brother, the gods are smiling at dusk when I look through the Swarovski!  I know that is at the top end of your price range but I only mention it because I bought it years ago right here at swfa for $600!  Also don't forget the Zeiss Conquest in 3-9 for $399!

Basic math   --  56mm is larger that 50mm and results in a larger exit pupil.

As for illuminated reticle there are lots of choices and at nigh the lower the power of the scope the smaller the front objective needs to be which is why I like the Nikon Monarch Gold 1.5-6 x42 it is still a managable size but has at least a 7mm eye pupil even at its highest power. These tacticals would work also at least on their lower powers at night and have the option to go  higher in the day just remember to dial down the power as it gets dark.

Thank you for all answers.
I will take probably the Bushnell ellite 4200 2,5-10x50 from SWFA.
I thnk this is the best scope for this money but I have  more questions:
-Wich reticle is better for low light condition Fire fly or Illuminated?
-how long is the Fire fly glowling green after charging?
-I will use this rifle for huntig in the mountains too,is the Bushnell not to heavy?

100JAN

Why not a Zeiss Diatal 8x56?
In Portugal the price is about 800 Euros.
Another good rifle scope and cheaper is the Meopta.
The Meostar 7x56 is about 500 Euros

100JAN Javali has presented some exellent low light scopes, I would also

recommend the Schmidt & Bender 8x56 and would like to advise you to

bargain shop for these scopes out of the UK, great deals on exellent scopes

could be obtained out of some of the local UK shops and delivered to your

home. Great advice as always Javali.

Yes, the S&B is a very good option, like Kahles, and the price is about 800 Euros.
The Swarovski is more expansive, about 100 Euros.

I use on a rifle Benelli 9,3x62 a Zeiss Diatal 6x42 (assembled in USA) and iam very satisfied. Is a nice and a very good scope.
For this gun i have also a Aimpoint 7000 SC that I used on a kind of hunting called Montaria.

Best regards

Javali

The 9.3 by 62 and 64 are exellent big game hunting calibers, the 6x42 is a fine choice for this caliber. You have a very nice setup

there for some serious hunting.
