Describe to me your perfect hunting scope and why?

As I continue to look for some scopes...there are days when I am overwhelmed with the options.  Lets here what you think would be the perfect hunting scope for my 22LR and why.

BTW, I assume general eastern small game (Rabbit, Tree Rat, Coon).  I assume everyone has something bigger for longer range ground hog and prairie dogs and ..
To be or not to be, that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them.

The Vortex Diamond Back HP 2-8x would fill that role good IMO.  It has a parallax adjustment down to 20 yards.  It is pretty small as well, but a bit heavier than your typical rimfire scope.

We have one but its on my wifes .243.  But I think it would work very well on a .22.

It is discontinued, but you can still find them if you look around a bit.
Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

I prefer a 2-7 scope the Weaver rimfire 2-7 works just fine.

I currently have a fixed 6x Super Sniper on my 22 that has engraved kenton knobs which allow me to dial in drop for distances out to 100 yds past that I'm wanting more rifle than a 22, but for the distances I use a 22 to hunt or target practice it is very handy.

I have a Leupold VX-2 3-9x33mm rimfire scope with adjustable objective on a 10/22 that I think is a dandy little hunting scope.  I prefer larger scopes on my paper punching rimfires though.

I prefer more magnification. My favorite is a Leupold VX2 4-12 AO fine duplex. It's still fairly light and compact for the power range and mine focuses down to around 25 yards on 12X.

I'm using an old Redfield widefield 2-7 with a BDC reticle. I got it to use on another rifle, but it just didn't work out so I put it on a Ruger 77/22. Forget the BDC crap, the 2-7x and the 77/22 have been a perfect combination for hunting small game, especially tree rats.

Bushnell Trophy Xtreme X30 6-24x50 30mm Scope with DOA LR800 Reticle; I paid 233$ to my door and upon opening the box I was shocked by the build. The clarity and just overall was excellent.

I would have never thought I would talk like this about a made in China rifle scope, that's another shocker for me. Clear and bright all the way to X24 and focus is clean. Tracking is another shocker, yeah a lot of shockers for this scope. Fantastic tracking.

The warranty is the absolute best in the business, you cannot beat it but you can match it and I do not know a company that warranties a scope even if you knocked it off the truck going 70mph and told them it was your fault, they do not care, they will repair/replace and send it to you, all you pay is shipping to them, just incredible.

Hello UL. Yes, you need at least 50 posts before you are able to edit posts and post photos.

I use a fixed 4X for those critters on my .22. I find it perfect. I use others on rimfires but for other purposes.

I used a BSA Sweet .22 for years, then a few years back decided to try some other scopes.  I just rezeroed the Sweet .22.  It has lost some clarity over the years, not as "bright" as it used to be.  However, the BDC for 40gr Thunderbolts is still right on.  I like this little scope, but the power range is too high on this model.  6-18.  For this particular application, I think a 3-9 would be great.  Passed up a great deal on 3-9 Sweet .22 a while back (sale at SWFA).  Don't know why, just never got around to it and then it was gone…
I can wait a bit, the 6-18 is still useable.

Hello. Could anyone compare the image quality of Sightron SIH 4-12X40 AO vs. Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 AO?

Both are made in the Philippines, but the price for Diamondback is higher. SIH is the basic range of Sightron.  Both are Fully Multi-Coated.

Well, getting back to the "if money were no object," line of thinking, here's my candidate for overall best rimfire hunting scope:

The March 1-10x24.  I'd get the non-illuminated version with the standard duplex reticle, but many reticle options are available.  It's compact at 10.3" long and has a pleasingly-small objective OD.  The zoom range is 1 to 10, so great field at 1 power and more than enough magnification at 10 power.  It has parallax/focus adjustment from 10 yds. to infinity.
The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.

Leupold 3-9x33 EFR with custom shop mildot reticle and alumina flip covers in Burris Signature rings would get my vote.  In fact, that combination has got my money on all of my rimfire and air rifle hunting rigs.

The Leupold VX-2 Ultralight 2-7x28 is something worth considering.  The 8.5oz is hard to beat for all day carry and fast off the shoulder 22LR shots.  It's practical, lightweight, and no frills. I also use this optic on a short LOP 16" .260 for deer hunting in tight stand/blind/brush situations. My favored products generally don't include Leupold but this optic fits & functions very well in minimalist applications and appears to also fit your hunting application.
