Most of us know that this subject doesn’t go together. It’s
like the phrase from the movie Big Daddy, when Rob Schnieder says: “They go together like Lamb and Tuna fish” It dawned me, while sitting in a pop up blind this weekend, I hadn’t taken my boots off. Which for some wouldn’t be alarming, considering it was late in the morning, right? Well…I had put them on the day before at six thirty am. By the time I recognized this it had been nearly thirty hours. This really intrigued me. Because unlike Cody Lindean, I wear shoes every day…everywhere. Although I had a difficult time picking the correct shoe. In this day, so much of our shopping is completed online. So the lingering thought of buyer’s remorse is ever present. The boots I choose are from a company called Wood N Stream. Specifically they are called INT. These boots have a leather frame with a rubber sole. The shaft is 9” with around toe box. While they are insulated, I wasn’t on fire while hiking around the White Rock Mountain area of Arkansas. As can see in the photos above and below, this area is challenging. It poses steep accents and to some 2300 feet isn’t something that the guys in west would consider some difficult feet. It is complex enough to increase the heart rate of most anyone from the Midwest and south. This poses an issue among inferior footwear. If you are hunting or decide that in the spring you want to trek across the Ozark trail spanning from Clarksville to Fayetteville, a poor shoe choice will invoke foot pain from blisters or sprangs. Now that I have had these boots for a while, I am confident to highlight how well they function. The 9” shaft supports your ankle when lacing the hooked eyelets. The Back Stay, Foxing, Quarter, and toe box are all double stitched, with the exception of the Blucher which is triple stitched. The rubber sole has a foam insert for added comfort upon impact. All in all, with some mink oil these boots work well for casual day to day endeavors while also a top performer for me in the field. You can find these as well as other Wood n Stream offerings from a preferred dealer. Edited by Skylar McMahon - October/06/2016 at 08:39 |

Good review and thank you. I'm constantly looking for a better boot for work and play.
I'm wearing a pair of Rocky Iron Clad lacers now. Not bad, but my toes get scrunched with thicker socks.

Good info!
I admit I had to look up "foxing," "quarter," and "blucher." I'm not very boot savvy, but I figured you just made up those words. Up to this point, my criteria for good boots has been: 1. Are they comfortable? 2. Do they last longer than 5 years? 3. Are they at least reasonably waterproof? I've found a few boots that meet criterias 1 & 2, but I've yet to find lace up boots advertised as "waterproof" that genuinely were.

No, it wasn't something I made up. I have a friend who all he buys are custom hand made cowboy boots.
Being around him, I have picked up somethings while he's talked with these West Texas Boot makers. 1) Yes, they are quite comfortable. 2) Working on figuring that out now. We will see and will add to this thread as time progresses. 3) No, they are not. I have never encountered a waterproof leather boot. I have touched them up with some mink oil and it has helped tremendously. |

I've had better luck waterproofing leather boots with seam sealer and Obenauf's than using gore-tex boots. And the plain leather doesn't heat up the foot like those gore-tex/plastic socks do.
Interesting bit I found when trying to figure out why some boots work for me and some don't is that one company will have different boots they build on different lasts. The boots that'll work for you are made on the last that matches your feet. A company should have details available on their different lasts.

Most folks have no idea what a last is and if you know your size and width you can look at most boots and know if that particular style will work for you or not.
Should have also said welted boots fit much different than direct attach. |
