I will be buying a Sako A 7 in the 270 WSM and want to put quality optics on this.  I have heard a lot of good things about Zeiss and need some impute please.

The Z 800 looks promising but how do the Recitals work?  I'm a newbie and don't mind spending the extra money to get quality gear. I have a 270 with a less expensive Nikon on it that my boy now shoots and it is an absolute tack driver.  It does not have any recitals which make for shooting over 300 yards a bit more challenging.

Thanks guy!

Mike

I have a Conquest with the Z600 reticle. Same thing only different! LOL. It works quite well actually (although not as accurate as dialing in corrections). I would encourage you to get on the Zeiss website and read the Rapid Z usage / explanations. Because it's a 2FP scope, the field usage will only be accurate (and match up with the reticle markings) at one power. It may or may not be at maximum magnification depending upon the ballistics of your load. Good luck Sir. BTW, welcome to the OT Forums.

Not the same, but I have a 270 with a Nikon Monarch 4-16x50 on it with a BDC reticle. I shoot hornady superformance out of it.

Using the spot on software, I have to be cranked up 9x just to use the first bubble, which is "around 300 yards".

I bought it because they told me when I toured the property this one field in particular was a 400 yard shot to the back of it from a shooting house, but my rangefinder says 300. I have one other one were I could have a 500 yard shot, but I have never shot anything over 200 yards away, sooooo I would be very reluctant to try it.

The chart you can print off has different ranges for different power settings for each of the bubbles. At 4x, I think the first bubble is some insane number like 500 yards. I like the software a lot, but using it and playing with it has halfway convinced me I wasted my money getting a BDC reticle. I do like using the chart and ranging where I think my furthers target will show up, and then setting the scope at the right magnification so the shot is just aim and shoot. But I am not sure I really need it either.

I'd just about go to dead on at 25 yards and know out to 300 I could put the cross hairs on the top of the deers back and be in the kill zone.

I had a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 with the Rapid Z-1000 reticle.  The hash marks in the reticle were only somewhat correct at a specific magnification, and only marginally accurate with certain ammunition.  Even with the specific ammunition (meaning the ballistics matched or was at least close to what Zeiss had planned) I found the point of impact using the hash marks did not match point of aim at distances past 300 yards.

I was trying to get 1 MOA or smaller results precision target shooting out to 800 yards.  The Rapid Z-1000 wasn't the right tool for that unless I dialed elevation, which negates the usefulness of the BDC reticle.  But it certainly can produce minute of deer out to 300 or 400 yards.  I like the Conquest line of scopes and still own 3 or 4 with Z-Plex reticles, but to me the Rapid-Z 1000 reticle was not really useful.

Zeiss Conquest is a damn fine scope. Why they discontinued the 3-9x and the sweet fixed 4x, is beyond me.

The 3-9x or the 4x? I think Meopta is making the 3-9x "equivalent" now.

The Conquest is still available, but it is renamed and it is sold by one of the very large suppliers of hunting equipment. About $400.
The Meopta is almost the same or better.
