Friends, getting some bad juju out of the Lone Star state of water related problems due to the recent deluge.
Please send a prayer or two to The Almighty for a speedy recovery. Thank you. |

My town (Brenham) got over 16" of rain in some places Thursday night. It was the greatest amount of rainfall ever recorded in Brenham in 1 day. The roads were flooded everywhere, and I couldn't even get home because of road closures, so I had to stay in a hotel 5 miles from my house Thurs night! We are o.k., but the water rose above slab level, seeped underneath the wall and got my carpet wet in our front bedrooms.
This is what the road near my house looked like Thursday afternoon: On the way home from work yesterday, I passed by some pasture land near the Brazos River that was a huge lake. There were several good people helping the landowner collect his cattle from the lake. 15-20 trucks with large cattle trailers were lined up alongside the road and several with air boats were collecting cattle from the floodwaters and loading them into the trailers so they wouldn't drown. I highly doubt they got them all, and I imagine quite a few were swept down the rapid flowing water of the Brazos. This was my view driving home from work yesterday: We were very fortunate. Two people drowned in my county and 1 more remains missing. Houston has had a lot of flooding as well during the past 2 months, with a few reported deaths there as well. There are fallen trees throughout the area due to the soil weakening from so much rain, with reports of trees falling on houses. If you recall, we had severe flooding down here last year at about this time, but it wasn't as bad as this year, and this is certainly not typical for Texas. I've never seen rain like this in my life! It's not raining today, so I hope it will hold off for awhile to allow the soil to dry out some. With the soil saturated, further rain won't soak in, making more flash flooding likely if we get another heavy rain storm. I can't walk in my yard without sinking to my ankles in soft mud. Again, I'm very fortunate, only getting some carpet damage, but many families were not so fortunate. Please keep Texas in your prayers. |

Hardly of note...but Blue Bell is STILL operational, correct, Ted?
I mean...they will still be able to deliver that heaven sent goodness across the fruited plain, right? Not DEFCON 1?

Prayers on the way Ted. I can't imagine 16" of rain like you can't imagine a 36" snowstorm but I believe the rain has caused a lot more damage.

Just ripped out a bunch of wet carpet in 2 bedrooms today. Have fans circulating across the slab. Have a company coming next week to check the condition of the walls to see if we got further damage that needs repair.

Bummer about the water damage, Ted. Having driven past the Brazos, I remember its banks seems mostly mud and dirt. I imagine the river's cutting some new channels right now.
