Hello all,

I am looking to purchase a new scope for my heavy barrel AR-10 for taking shots out to 800 yards. I am looking for a scope with 2-3x low end magnification and a 15-18x high end magnification with an illuminated MRAD reticle (most of the reticle not just a dot). I am currently considering these scopes:

http://swfa.com/Burris-3-15x50-XTR-II-34mm-Rifle-Scope-P79826.aspx

http://swfa.com/Vortex-4-16x50-Viper-PST-30mm-Rifle-Scope-P44561.aspx

I know the viper isn't exactly what I want but it is much cheaper. I am looking for other potential alternatives or thoughts on these scopes. I would like to spend between $1,000-$1,800 but would consider a little higher if I am getting a lot more scope for the money.

Of the ones you list, I like the Steiner… with Horus reticle.  If you can live without illumination you can get a "best value" with the SS3-15.
Opinion,untempered by fact,is ignorance.

There are some who do not fear death... for they are more afraid of not really living

I can't live without the illumination. I have several SS3-15x that I like very much.
