I just got my new SWFA SS 10x42 MOA/MIL DOT scope. The turret clicks seem very mushy and quiet to me. Is this normal?

Not normal.
I suggest you take this up with SWFA Customer Service. They will take care of you.

Welcome to Optics Talk.
I'm not sure what your assessment of "quite and mushy" is, but sometimes the scopes need to be broke in somewhat. Meaning, there's a good bit of grease under the turrets and the clicks will sometimes feel more solid after you spin them around a bit. I would also recommend making sure the 3 set screws holding the turret cover on are snug. Do not over tighten obviously. Lastly, if you feel something may still be amiss, give SWFA a call Monday and talk to one of the customer professionals there. My SS 10x is still clicking solid and true after 10 plus years. Good shooting.

Here is the deal. I ordered the Scope a couple weeks ago. By accident I ordered the 10x42 mil/mil scope. I returned it for the MAO/Mil scope. I felt the turret click on the mil/mil and thought this is nice. When I received the MOA/mil scope the first thing I thought was, wow these turret clicks are very mushy compared to the mil/mil. I tightened the set screws just in case but it still seems mushy/soft/quite. I also noticed my scope did not come with the allen key for the turrets which is also furthering my suspicion something is a miss with this scope. I also own a Nikon M223 2-8x32 which have turret clicks that are unbelievable. Maybe that's what is throwing me off. |

Not to mention I just realized the elevation and windage turrets are swapped. My elevation knob is on the side windage knob is on top of the scope.

Just picked up mine.
If you cannot audibly hear and feel the clicks, something isn't working properly. I again suspect, it may have a bit too much grease, but like KB said, give SWFA a call and go from there. |

Weird that the turrets are mis installed and no wrench. There may be more to this!

I feel like I got a scope someone bought, screwed up, then returned. Kind of like everything you find on the shelves at Home Depot. |

All my other scopes are MOA, and it is what I am accustomed to. |

Sounds like your not going to be satisfied until you get a replacement, which is your right to do.
Since it's the week end....I would.....take the turret covers off, get a paper clip and remove some of the excess grease, and then switch the turret covers back, crank the snot out the turrets and give it another go. This isn't really that big a phenom. If it didn't work after that, I'd call SWFA and see what they could do.

Ok, I figured out the problem. Turrets were pushed down to far then tightened. As soon as I loosened the set screws the turrets popped right up. Retightened the set screws and feel nice now. I'm guessing the turrets were pushed down so far the were causing friction. |

Cool. I think you'll be happy with the SS when you get it "ringed up" and running.
