In the leupold VXR and VX6 series why would someone get with the 4 vs the duplex. I've never hunted with a German 4 of any kind. I do like a more bold reticle. Is the only advantage of the 4 quicker on target?

The #4 is quicker, (bolder) and better suited for heavy brush and "movers", IMO.
It allows the shooter to acquire the sight picture faster than the Duplex and to distinguish between the reticle and a tree branch, twig, etc in heavy growth areas. (Like mine.) The Duplex reticle is "typically" better suited for target shooting and long distance, IMO. I have the Firedot Duplex and like it, but as I stated on your earlier thread, I'd probably go with the #4 next go around.

Thanks cheaptrick. I guess I'm just apprehensive about trying the firedot 4 without seeing one in person on such and expensive purchase.

How about a Leica ERi 2.5 - 10m X 42 30 mm 4A reticle.
It will work. |

I'm sure the Leica is a fine scope from all I've heard about them. This time around I am forsure getting a VX6 2-12x42 just need to decide on the reticle.

I'd opt for the #4 reticle for low light hunting. No question. Especially in thick woods.

Just read that all Leupold scopes that have the German 4 or firedot 4 the adjustments are in metric??? Now that would be fine for sighting in but would that mean the cds dial would be in meters? That would be a deal breaker.

I am sure that just means the adjustmemts are in mils instead of moa. That has nothing to do with distance. Lots of scopes habe mil based adjustments.

I ordered the VX6 2-12x42 with the firedot duplex. I know I like that reticle. I THINK I would like the firedot 4 but didn't want to experiment on such a expensive purchase in case I didn't like it. Thanks for all the help.

I've been using that firedot duplex on a 3-18x44 VX6 for a couple of years now and it is a fantastic reticle, with our without the illumination. You're gonna love it. |
