I was never a HUGE fan of Kirk Douglas....I LIKED him okay....but he wasn't my BIG FAVORITE.
.....until I read THE RAGMAN'S SON!!! Unbelievable! You MUST read that book....to see where this impoverished person came from! Then I read about his friendship with John Wayne....even though he was a liberal Democrat, he and the Duke WERE BUDS!!! Kirk Douglas was a REAL GUY! And Duke was a real un-bigoted pal of Kirk....Duke helped him finance CAST A GIANT SHADOW about Israel in 1948.....read all about it in Kirk's book... A hell of a guy....left a lot of money to a lot of charities..... |

103 years is a hell of a run!!! RIP old son!
I too was not a big fan. I fell pray to his good acting... I got turned off by a part he played in a John Wayne WWII movie where he raped a nurse... I was young and idealistic and it totally turned me off. He did such a great job of acting I ever liked him after that....

IN HARMS WAY was a great movie. Kirk Douglas played a cad. He was great. Then he stole a plane and found the Jap fleet and sent them a message. |

Hey Ed! A class mate of mine was laid to rest this week. When we were in recruit school Joseph Waumbaugh's book, "The Choir Boys" was going around the class, and everybody that read it, loved it. It was eventually made into a movie. I never read the book, and I've only seen bits of the movie on TV. Maybe if you can find the movie, I'll finally sit down and watch it.

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

I'll look for it. I never read that, either, I don't think although I read several of Waumbaugh's books.
Well, you can rent it or buy it on Youtube.....it's not free.
