Hey guys. I was an active member of this forum for several years and spent alot of my free time here. I just had to rejoin due to forgotten password. Anyway I been out of the mix for bout 4 years and have not kept up with the optics world. I learned so much from this forum and now just spoiled to quality optics. I'm looking for some decent hunting binoculars for my dad and looking for some recommendations. So here are the facts:
Dad is in his 60's wear glasses and eye sight just ain't what it used to be.I'm looking for some 8x42 binoculars unless yall convince me other wise. I have a pair of minox 8.5x43 that I love and he likes them too but not looking to spend that kind of money. I looked little bit and kind of like the nikon 5 in 8x42 but haven't actually looked thru them but I think they are pretty much the older atb binoculars and I had of pair of them and they were pretty dang good. I'm open to all suggestions and any bargains. Would like to keep it under $300 but not opposed to spending little more. Thanks |

The Zen Rays would probably be your best bet.

Thanks cheap trick and I see you are still hanging around. Jon MT I know nothing about the zen rays. I looked at zrs HD zenrays after ur recommendation. I'm sure they are good but coukd you or someone elaborate little more about them. They are little cheaper than the nikon monarch 5 but are they as good , better,?

http://swfa.com/Vortex-8x42-Viper-HD-Binocular-P48307.aspx http://swfa.com/Vortex-8x56-Vulture-HD-Binocular-P44650.aspx A little above your price range, but you might want to take a look at them. My cousin has the Vipers and I looked through them and couldn't believe how good the image was. Edited by tahqua - December/17/2015 at 13:05 |

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

You should also consider the Z-R 7x36. It is not hugely smaller than a 42mm bino, but it is a few ounces less than many. It has a very bright, sharp, and wide view. But perhaps the best thing about them is the very easy view that 7x gives. Very easy to hold still. IMO the best inexpensive 8x42 for an older person is a 7x36 (or 7x42, but there isn't an inexpensive one that is easily found)........

I have used the non-HD ZR's a lot. They are quite nice for the money and the HD is surely better. You can't go wrong with an 8 x 42 for all around use either.
