Now that it is warming up, we will start up again. I have been so busy, I feel bad because we haven't shot together in a while.

Bud, all kidding aside if you get a chance watch some of the video Hitting "Em Like Howard Hill done by John Schulz. Its a great starter for anyone looking to learn how to shoot bare bow.
Skylar, it was nice to see your son improving in the videos

LOL, probably....
The Recurve I tried to use didn't have anything but a string and an arrow rest. Without any instruction I didn't have much of a clue and the results really showed that. My daddy was a bookworm not an outdoorsman... |

I'm not too sure about bringing out the recurve yet.....
I find it much easier and tons less frustrating learning on a good compound bow with peek and 5 pins. I tried a recurve first and became very discouraged for lack of accuracy and repeatability!!!! Granted I didn't have anyone to teach me. I had a hard time even hitting the target. Then I was handed a well set-up compound and watched a 2 minute crash course on YouTube. My first ten arrows at 15 paces all landed within 6" of the bullseye and I was instantly hooked and excited.

Teach him on a traditional stick bow as well. Very affordable starter bows for kids and it will really teach him the basics of archery and judging ranges. He can decide which equipment he prefers as he gets older. I've shot both but have pretty well gravitated back to traditional recurves and long bows also shooting in my back yard just for fun these days and to keep my shoulder strength up.

AMS Bowfishing Bow is easy to use because length of draw does not have to be constant.

He's not slowing down. He's growing like a weed and has become quite the helper. He tried to help me while I was tiling out bathroom. I will have pics up of that project pretty soon, but he hates these short days, because by the time we get home, it's too late to practice shooting in the back yard.

What made my mind up was the adjustable Draw and Weight.
Draw Weight on this is from 15 - 70 pounds. Draw Lenth is from 19 to 30 Inches. He loves it, we are headed out to the back yard to practice. Hope you all have a great day today.

Yesterday I needed to hit the local pro shop up for a copule things. Meanwhile my son was with me and I have been entertaining getting a bow for him.
Every afternoon when we get home, his responsibility is to feed, water and let the dogs out. Then while they are doing their thing, I will shoot about 10-12 shots in the back yard and my son will watch. I did a lot of research and I decided to pick one up for him. I decided on Misson Archery's Craze II, he picked the color...Zombie green. So, while we were there I spent some time with him, working on stance, form, taking aim and then releasing the arrow. After a short time, his confidence improved and so did his aim. Right now, we are fifteen pounds, but I'm thinking after he builds those muscels up, he will be pulling heavy weights very soon. Check out our day at the range yesterday. Edited by Skylar McMahon - November/01/2015 at 16:29 |
