I need some advice on the following.  I'm thinking about buying a Bushnell 3200 in the 3-9, with either a 40 or 50 mm obj lens.  The weight is irrelevant to me.  I've heard that 50 mm lets in 50% more light than 40 mm lens, and to me, an extra couple of minutes of light would be worth the extra $40 for the 50 mm lens.  Most of my hunting is with a .308 and no more than 100 yards, but 3-4 times a year, I hunt where I may have 250 yard shots.  Really, what will the 50 mm lens add to the 40 mm lens?  Thanks for any help.

This is a fairly common question, so it has been put into a "sticky" thread.

There is a lot of information here:

Rather than changing lens size try moving up to the 4200 series.  Coatings make as much, if not more differance than lense size.

What silver said. For about $250 you can get the 4200 3-9x40.
