Greetings all. Just picked up a used SWFA 3-15x42 for a decent price. I was messing around with it earlier today and unscrewed the front objective, separating it from the main body of the scope. I assumed it was a piece that was meant to come off for some reason, but then I found myself staring down into the interior of the scope body. I hope I didn't do anything I wasn't supposed to, like inadvertently release the nitrogen or anything. The owner did not send the instruction manual with the scope, so I thought I'd check with the resident SMEs first. Thanks.

Well if you look at the picture on the product page (http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-3-15x42-Tactical-Rifle-Scope-P62238.aspx), the part that looks like it might be a sunshade (the groove/line on the objective bell housing just before the laser engraved text), you can actually unscrew that piece right off there. At least on my copy you can. Now granted, it's a fairly deep thread, but just wanted to be sure if it's okay. Thanks.

Nope. Shouldn't have unscrewed it
Might try calling SWFA for help. |

If you did not get instructions for proper procedures to take it apart. Then you should not be taking it apart.
Call SWFA for instructions on what to do next. |

Or, assume the opposite, it might be just fine.
Do you want to find out it isn't at an inopportune time?

Most certainly a win for SWFA customer service. The turnaround was very fast. The scope came back in factory packaging and everything. No ring marks around the tube or anything. It was like a brand new scope when I got it back. Thanks, guys.

^ Upon closer inspection I believe it is. I mean, the scope that was returned to me was flawless. I added a note that the reticle appeared to have a slight cant to it, and asked if they would look into to verify, so that's probably why they just sent me a whole new one. Pretty awesome that they'd take care of me even though I was being a bonehead. Heading out to ring some steel.

They pretty much take care of anyone who has purchased a product from them, be it your 1st scope or your 10th scope.
