I have a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44Mag with 7.5" barrel. I want to install a scope or Red Dot sights. What type of mounts do I use that can handle the recoil? There is only one screw for the built in rear sight, Do I have to drill more holes? Any suggestions on a scope and/or Red Dot sight? Thanks, Pete |

The only scope that I currently have on a handgun is a Burris 1x short mag on a TC Encore 45-70. I had a Burris 3-12 pistol scope but did not like it. The 2x scopes are plenty on most hunting handguns. As for red dots stick with Aimpoint or regret your choice later when you place the scope on a fixed object and move your head at which time the red dot will move all over the place. For most of them cheekweld is critical. |

Check with SSK Industries for a mount and rings. For a scope, I recommend a Burris 2X or 2-7X. I use the 2-7X on a couple of high power handguns and like it a lot. It's very useful to have 3 or 4X if you're shooting long range, plus this scope is much better in low light than the 2X20.

Both B- Square and Weaver make mounts for the SBH. You do, I think, have to remove the back sight to use that hole. I shoot my SBH with open sights, but I have a Burris 2X on my 44 Mag Contender and it handles the recoil fine. I also have 2X scopes on 30-30 and 41 mag barrels and for my purposes (Eastern whitetail hunting) 2X is sufficient. These scopes are Sightron and Leupold and they also work fine. You need to compare a few brands and pick the one you like.
