Yes, this was two years ago. I was referring to the rifle, not the rifle + the new scope. It hasn't even shipped yet.

Slightly off-topic: in the post above I typed "lazered" but autocorrect changed it to layered. This is the only forum I participate in that won't allow the user to edit a post after the fact.

Just as an FYI: I bought the Vortex but immediately returned it as soon as I opened the box. Not made in Japan as I was told before ordering, but made in the Philippines. No thanks--I have yet to own a scope from there that didn't have either optical or mechanical problems within a year.

I think you made a mistake returning the Vortex Viper!  I have 4 and all are spot on, clear and crisp with excellent turrets.

The Philippines produce excellent scopes when QCed properly!  Japan has been shifting production there themselves for a few years now.  It' the 'made in China'; ones you need to be concerned with!

I agree with budperm. I have had some good experiences with both Burris and Nikon Monarchs made in the PI. It is all about QC.

Never had an issue with my vipers either.  Did have a crossfire give up the ghost but vortex made it right and upgraded me on the warranty..... their VIP warranty is excellent/
