I've had a lot of different scopes over the years and ACOG has always been on my list as a "some day" optic. Towards the end of 2014 I picked up my first "high-end" AR, a brand new KAC SR-15 Mod 2. I debated for some time as to which optic to throw on it. In the end I went with an eotech 517 and G33 magnifier combo. My reasoning for this was that I'd still be able to use those killer KAC BUIS in addition to the eotech. Over a couple months of shooting though I found that the weight of that combo and the lack of a BDC reticle was mildly annoyong at times so I started pricing ACOGs.
Just last week I took delivery of my first ACOG. A TA31F from sportsmans outdoor superstore (great prices btw). This is a 4x32 scope with a dual illuminated red chevron reticle set up for 223 BDC. I have to say I could not be more pleased with this optic. It is well worth the price these ACOGs command. Quite the "hit" at my local range too. Several other shooters asked if they could check it out. Our range has six steel plates on a hillside at 200, 250, 300, 350, 400 and 450 yards. Once I zeroed the ACOG I was able to rapidly transition thru all those targets getting hits on every one. Impressive, and a perfect example of what the ACOG is designed to do. Here's a pic I took of it on my SR-15 for fun. KAC SR-15 by scott gajdos, on Flickr |

Nice rig,
ACOGs are nice. Next try the Accupoint 1-4x and the SWFA SS 1-4x. You may like those even better. Having the ability to dial down to 1x is nice. I still have a 3x ACOG, but I would pick a 1-4x over it in most cases. |

You are right. The 1-4x scopes are perfect on an AR. have a Leatherwood Hi-Lux CMR 1-4x on my M&P15 Sport. It's an outstanding scope, very versatile. Got it from SWFA and it came with their "SSALT" mount and two P-Mags for I think like 340 bux. Here's a pic of it.
CMR by scott gajdos, on Flickr I prefer the simplicity, ruggedness and absolute battle-readiness of the ACOG though! |

Yes, very pretty.
I am still very much considering getting a 4x ACOG for my 300 blk. The reticle they have is pretty cool. Its setup for both subs and supers |

Just out of curiosity, how much did the acog run you?
I've been pricing it out as well for my AR (just sold my primary arms 2.5x prism because it was absolute rubbish). I like the idea of a compact yet magnified optic but I have never been able to "pull the trigger" on the price of the acog. Did the BDC work well for you or was it off/needed adjusting to?

I got it for 949 with free shipping from sportsmans outdoor superstore. The absolute best price anywhere online that I've found. And the people there were extremely accommodating. I ordered the TA31F-G (green reticle). They shipped me a TA31F (red reticle). They were so apologetic about it they offered to overnight me the correct one before they even received the return. i was too excited to even wait an extra day though so I just accepted the red reticle and told them not to worry about an exchange. They still insisted on "making it right" so they overnighted me 150 rounds of American Eagle XM193 ammo! As for the BDC, it works miraculously. Once it's zeroed for 100yds/meters it's like taking candy from a baby. Hit after hit after hit using that BDC reticle. It could become mundane and boring if it wasn't so insanely fun! |
