Hi there hope all is well, i received a new leupold 4.5 x 14 x 50 VX3-L scope for my weatherby mark 5 lazermark 30-06 for Christmas and I have got it dialed in and it seems to like hornady 165 grain SST's. Anyway when i specified when i picked up the scope that i was going to install the CDS system when i decided on a round... the cabelas salesmen agreed that its a very impressive system. i like the thoughts of quick adjustment in the field, he said when i was ready to just send away for the dials. However... after looking closer at my scope... it came stock with the typical finger adjustable 1/4" click MOA turrets with caps. The more i research online about the CDS and the videos i see, i don't see a way to remove these stock turrets myself? and they dosent seem nearly high enough to accept the CDS set screws that i see. Did i receive the wrong scope? I do see that their is a CDS vx3-L and just a VX3-L however the salesmen assured me that all VX3 scopes were CDS capable. anyone have any insight? |

I don't have a VX-3, if it's the same as an FX-3 the CDS dial goes over the existing turret and locks down on the side with a set screw. It's really simple. Accurate too as long as you give them the right load data. After you install the CDS, you don't use the cap which would defeat the purpose anyway.

Do you have the tall turrets on your FX3? The reason I ask about my Turrets accepting the CDS system is because I see the set screws on the CDS dials are closer to the top, and I have the stock very low dials with screw on caps on my VX3-L

I believe they are the same though I don't have it in front of me. The new dial is taller and has a skirt that covers up the threads that the turret cap screws onto. It will look like it was designed and built with the CDS when your finished.

A quick look at Leupold's website "feature" page shows 6 different VX-3L 4.5-14x models and 2 of them are specifically listed as CDS capable. Either further research on their website, or a call to Leupold would be the best source of info.

Not all of the VX 3 scopes are CDS scopes. One can dial in correction with a VX 3 but its a different knob. Go to Leupold Custom shop to see the possible options. Look at the box to see what model scope you have. The salesman may have misled you.
