I've been looking at new scopes and a guy at work said he would sell me one. So he brought it in and it's a gloss Nikon 3-9x40 with a plex. Around the front has a silver and red stripe with two small Z patterns in it. on the center it just says Nikon in the center of a <==< design and serial number 402187.

Can anyone tell me what this scope is? It looks pretty good to me and I sure it's worth what he's asking but its my first scope so I am alitlle clueless.

Thanks,

Can you post a picture of it.  Does it have Made in Japan on it somewhere?

When Nikon first started offering scopes they just had one line of scopes with no name, there were no Monarchs, Buckmasters, Prostaff, etc......just Nikon.  These were made in Japan and are very high quality desirable scopes.

Yes it says Japan right under the serial number. Here are a couple pics sorry about the quality but they were taken with my phone.

You did good.  Wanna double your money?

It appears to be a first generation Nikon.  Very good scope....especially for what you paid for it.

I not going to sell it because I needed a scope for my Model 88 .308. I was looking in the ~$300 range (monarch, 3200, vx-II, ETC.) but this seemed too cheap to pass up and hopefully somewhat comparible. Are the older Nikons warrentyed for life for a second hand owner?

Yes but only for your second life.
