I've been doing research on the EOTech sights, and they are really expensive. I got to wondering if it costs that much to make them, or if the retailers are profiting off of a significant markup. Does anyone know? |

I don't want to sound flippant, but either way, why does it matter? It costs what it costs. The free market determines whether or not something is priced reasonably, and profit isn't a dirty word. If a given product is priced too high, consumers will vote with their wallets.
Many manufacturers have strict M.A.P. (minimum advertised price) agreements with their retailers that won't allow the retailer to discount items below a defined minimum price, for a variety of reasons I won't go into here. So, if you're a dealer who carries their products, you cannot advertise prices below the MAP or the supplier will no longer allow you to sell their products. In addition, nobody who is able to answer your question is going to do so, as that's confidential info. Revealing net dealer price violates a retailer's business agreements with L3, the manufacturer of EOTechs. L3 isn't going to tell you what it costs to build an EOTech, but I can easily believe the development costs are expensive, and they have to recoup those costs. The fact that L3 is a major defense contractor only increases these development costs. All quality reflex sights are expensive, not just EOTech. |

People almost never consider that the pricing covers extended warranty periods. One of the reasons shooting optics are so expensive is the warranty costs to the OEM... Almost everything having a lifetime warranty creates a huge potential blackhole of expensive they have to deal with....

Ted. Not so much flippant as arrogant, but who really cares? And I don't really give a rat's a** about anything you said. I was just curious. That's why I asked. If you don't have the answer, don't respond.

Had Ted provided the best answer that could be provided. it is obvious that since striker36 couldn't understand the rules of the forum, That he agreed and signed to. He could not have understood any answer that was given. Ted answered the question fully, and Striker36 still had a childish temper tantrum.

Nobody here has the answer to your question, anyone who does won't tell you, and common sense should tell you that. There's no way to answer your question without pointing out the obvious. That's the whole point! But, since you seem incapable of acting reasonably, your tenure here has now officially expired. |

For a person new to optics and/or manufacturing and selling in general, it was a reasonable question. Ted's response was both accurate and informative, then...
Wow, just wow. I sometimes forget how smart and tough everyone is on the internet.
