Nikon Pro Staff Riflescope compared to Nikon Monarch® UCC Riflescopes
I hear good thing about Nikon but are they only related to the Monarch's? |

Nikon has been making camera lenses both point and shoot and pro models for a long time. You have to determine what is right for the way you will use it both will work, one is better.

I use Nikon Cameras for work. The last lens filter I bought, a single peice of coated glass, cost more than than many of the "Pro staff" scopes. Camera images help pay the bills here. So cutting the wrong corner is very counter productive. When you see what real glass costs, you have to wonder about what, if anything, you get in something as detailed as a rifle scope for what you are spending. Dollar for dollar good optics are cheap right now. Cheap optics are never good no matter how cheap you get them. |

The Pro Staff has only a 90% light transmittion while the Monarch® UCC boasts a 95% light transmittion rate. I just bought a Nikon Monarch UUC 3-9 X 40 BDC for my Encore Pro Hunter. I'll let you know how well it works after I get it back from the range.

Thanks, If the Nikon Monarch is out of my price range would the Pro Staff be good or should I go with say a Burris Fullfield II?

I don't have a lot of experience with the Pro Staff but I'm pretty certain that you're going to see a pretty big difference in optical quality if you go with the Fullfield II. The FF II is a great scope for the money & should work well for you. Check out samplelist.com (SWFA's "used, dealer sample, refurb, etc." site) if you're working under a tight budget. They have a ton of Monarch scopes available. |

Nikon ProStaff is an embarassment to Nikon's name (just like Rifleman is an embarassment to Leupold).
It is pretty much a barely disguised attempt to sell crappy glass and charge a premium for Nikon's name. Both Buckmaster and Monarch are good scopes. Stay away from ProStaff. ILya |
