I'd like to stay as close to $200 as possible for a decent variable scope in the 3-9 area with adjustable parallax. Probably a tall order but any help would be appreciated. There is also the possibility of it seeing use on center fire rifles in the 30-06 power range as well. It's main use will be on the .17 though. |

I went with the 2-7x on my .17.

I've shot with the Redfield Revolution. No complaints. However, it was on a .22. I suspect it will hold up to 30-06 just fine.

I have a Redfield Revenge 4-12x42 Accurange scope on my 93R17.
The glass is pretty good. Very good for a $200 scope. The turrets have good movement and positive clicks. The power range adjuster is very tight but it could just be mine. It is smooth. The one reason I would not recommend it is the eye box. It's pretty picky. Other than the finicky eyebox I like the scope a lot. For shooting off a bench it's no big deal since you can take your time. Had I a do over I would have given a serious look at the Vortex diamondback in the same price range. |

I have a 17 HMR , and I love this cartridge. I would recommend a fixed 6x, but if you want a 3-9x the Vortex Diamondback gets great reviews in your budget range. http://swfa.com/Vortex-3-9x40-Diamondback-Rifle-Scope-P10823.aspx If you can come up just a bit, the Sightron SII is a great choice. I'm using several of them, and have been very satisfied. |

Swift Premier line has several possibilities. 4-12, 4.5-14. There is a 3-9, but I think it has fixed parallax.
