If you could get either one for your only hunting rifle which one would it be? The meostar has the illuminated 4K reticle in the sfp. swaro with the standard plex.
thanks, Josh

What type of hunting is your intended use? I really like objectives in the 40-44 mm range on scopes topping out around 10x. My hunting rifles log quite a few miles in timber and brush, and the larger objectives seem to catch on more stuff, and don't slide in/out of horse scabbards as easily. Conversely, most of my shooting is at dawn or dusk, so I also want a larger objective than 36 mm to let as much light in as possible. If tasked to scope a single, do everything rifle for hunting, I'd try to find something in between these two like the Leica 2.5-10x42 with a #1 reticle. Given the two choices you've stated however, I'd probably go with the smaller/sleeker Swaro (at about 1/2 the weight) if I was logging a lot of miles with the rifle, and the Meopta if I low light was a priority. |

Look at the physical size and weight of that Meopta 56mm scope. Do you want all that on a hunting rifle?
It can turn an elegant rifle into a stick attached to a telescope, top heavy and more difficult to shoot from field positions. For stand hunting in the dark (Euro style night hunting) it would be great, that is what it was designed for. i would get the z3, it would do very well anything you ask from a hunting scope. From Meopta, i would choose their 1.5-6x42 with illum. no 4. Now that's a really nice versatile hunting scope. For the same money, i would also look at the Leica 42mm scope with the German no. 1 3 post reticle, i still may do that. A 3 post no 1 reticle in a scope with great optics does not really need illumination.

for some reason the 3-12x56 meopta doesnt seem all that big to me. my rifle is still light. balances well. was able to mount the scope with medium steel talleys. the last 2 scopes i bought were meoptas with 42 and 44mm objectives. the glass is so good in meopta u probably wont need the 56mm im saving up for a sako finnlight. the scope i will likely put on it is another 3.5-10x44 meopta. dont see myself getting rid of my 56mm tho. just wanting to state that its really not as bulky or heavy as u would think

thank you all for the replies! love this site. i always get more to think about after reading answers to my original question.
Is the meostar's glass comparable to the z3? I kind of thought that the z3 was far superior optically.

from what ive read the meostar is near zeiss diavari optically. ive never compared the two just going by what ive read. i have compared the meoPRO to a z3 and couldnt find enough difference to justify the higher price of the swaro. plus the meopta reticle was better to me.

My opinion is totally unfounded - just what I thought based on the swaro name...

Quite a contrast in scope configurations there....one with 56mm obj, the other with 36mm? I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not a huge fan of the SwaroA (Z3) scopes, so I'd probably take Meopta any day over this particular Swaro. I'm really impressed with Meopta stuff.
