Have both, love both. But.....The LW's are all I get now. They are lightweight, strong as heck, and I much prefer horizontal split to vertical. I have pics if you want to see.

Best,

I have never tried the steel, but I am sure they are very nice.  I have a few sets of the LWs and they are fantastic IMO.

I had a set of steel talley quick disconnects but they were not as "finished" as the LW sets I've had, they actually marred my scope.

Yep. The steel Talley's have marred up my scope tube a bit. NONE with the LW's.

It's not even a contest, unless your thinking of mounting a scope on a .416 Rigby or some such. I might consider the steel, but even then, I'd try the LW's first.

I'd be mildly surprise if it didn't get bit.

I have multiple sets of both styles, and have never had the first problem with either.

I have both, lightweight and fixed, they're equally good, I've changed out many a scope and never had either of 'em mare the finish of the tube. The steel are a tad heavier but we're not talking a pound here. It's more the look you want unless you're going extreme light weight watching every single little ounce. The fixed look very classy, old school, stainless fixed look great on a stainless action, the matte fixed look equally as good too on any action but I've received a couple where the finish wasn't the best (Gary took care of me). The lightweights have a whole look of their own and easier to mount a scope. It's really what you like unless again you're going for shaving every single ounce. All my hunting rifles have either fixed or lightweights.  Thunbs Up
