Hi, and sorry for bringing this "brand vs brand" topic up again....
I am trying to decide whether to buy the Leupold VX-R 3-9X50 or the Minox ZA5 HD 2-10X50 The Leupold comes with a illuminated dot, but for my use ( mostly big game hunting) I dont find this absolutely necessary, more like a "nice to have option" I have not used any of these, but I know Leupold in general has a very good reputation. Minox is relatively new in the norwegian market, however Schott lenses should be a good statement regarding optical quality, and this sight comes with "high definition" and a 30 mm tube, like the VX-R (we europeans like that) So, which one should I mount on top of my Varberger in kal. 30-06?

Welcome to the OT!
I haven't purchased a Leupold in 8 yrs.but I have purchased several Minox.Truth be told my favorite hunting scope is a Minox 2-10 x 50 ZEi with a 4A illum red dot,Outstanding scope but it is a little pricy.

Can't say anything about the Loupy, but a good friend of mine is the Minox rep here in the northeast where I live. I've looked thru a bunch of his samples and I was impressed with what I saw.

Welcome to Optics Talk.
I have the VX-R 3-9x with Firedot. I've fooled with some Minox scopes and though the glass is quite good, the "rolling ball" effect that I experienced, turned me off. http://www.opticstalk.com/rolling-ball-affect_topic27819.html It really boils down to the effectiveness of glass quality, versus the Firedot reticle as to which is better in low light. Minox will have the superior glass between the two. Between the two, I'd go with the Leupold.

Just got a Nikko Stirling Diamond 2.5-10x50illuminated sighed in. Certified Japanese glass. Tracked fine and stays zero. Better to my eyes than a Bushnell Elite 6500 50 mm. Or a Leupold Firedot. Very low price on these.
