Sounds like tyranny to me! The public lands belong to all of us taxpayers!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/govbeat/wp/2014/09/24/u-s-forest-service-wants-to-charge-1500-to-take-photos-on-federal-wild-lands/

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised by this. Although I don't believe it will become law, the very fact it's being considered in the first place is outrageous!

It's been suggested it's blowback after after the Bundy Ranch fiasco. Makes sense.

Everything we do, every right we have is under assault.

Each and every person of good will should write their senators and DEMAND that the first question to any Obama nominee for Attorney General be… "was Ft Hood shooting an act of "workplace violence" or an act of Islamic Jihad?"   IF the answer is the former, he should be immediately eliminated from possibility of serving in ANY capacity, much less AG.  A "hold" can be placed on any presidential nominee by any senator, it can be indefinite and can only be removed by the senator.  Harry Reid has destroyed the "rules of the senate" and that must be countered…

Write the letters, demand the action...

Opinion,untempered by fact,is ignorance.

Hey Ted,

I like the exposure of tyranny as much as the next guy, but that article is terrible journalism and misleading as the permit system is only for those photo and video shoots that require sets, artificial lighting stands, etc. or are to occur in areas that are otherwise closed due to safety concerns (like the brink of a waterfall for instance).

Here is the definition of the affected activity:

Still Photography. The use of photographic equipment to capture still images on
film, digital format, and other similar technologies on National Forest System lands
that:
(1) Takes place at a location where members of the public are generally not allowed
or where additional administrative costs are likely, or
(2) Uses models, sets, or props that are not a part of the site’s natural or cultural
resources or administrative facilities.

and the permit system does not pertain to:

(c) A special use authorization is not required for noncommercial recreational activities, such as camping, picnicking, hiking, fishing, boating, hunting, and horseback riding, or for noncommercial activities involving the expression of views, such as assemblies, meetings, demonstrations, and parades

Soooo,

This system tries to offset problem that arise when, say some oil company does a print campaign in the Colorado Wilderness where they have to set up a crane for a shot or something, not you or me documenting our hunt or National Geographic doing an article on active volcanoes or the like.

It neither surprises me that a journalist would be "less than truthful" and write something misleading, nor that the fed government would try to find new, creative ways to tax us.

I generally check out the legitimacy of stuff before I forward it to someone in an email or post on a forum, but in this case, the second aspect of the above sentence is why I fully believed the piece in the context the author wrote it.
