Hi, new member here.
In Hunter Field Target air rifle shooting, target sizes are from 15mm to 40mm at ranges 10yd to 45yd. Once the first target has been shot at no adjustments can be made to the scope. Since parallax setting can not be changed one requires a scope with sufficient depth of field for the close and far targets to produce a shootable image. Depth of field is an important parameter therefore when selecting a scope for HFT. My question is, does a scope's depth of field depend on other variables than objective lens diameter, magnification and parallax free setting? Will all scopes which are say x10 - 42 and adjusted to be parallax free at 25yd have pretty much the same depth of field regardless of manufacturer and, if not, how does one go about selecting an appropriate scope for HFT? Thanking you in advance for any advice. Ric.

No. There are three optical systems in a riflescope, all matched to each other. The depth of field is typically limited by the objective lens system, where the factors are the limiting pupil size and focal length. General rule of thumb is that scopes with short overall length and large objective lenses have shallow depth of field. However, since we do not always know the exact location of optical elements inside a scope, this is more of a guideline. ILya
