Looking for a 1-4 or 1-6 ar scope in the $300.00-500.00 range. Need some suggestions on quality scopes in that range. Also a good quick mount that re-zeros well if removed.
Thanks guys.

Take a look at the Leatherwood CMR 1-4x, available in two levels of optical quality.  Great reticle for 5.56 and quick to pick up targets on 1x.  Illumination choice of red or green though not really bright enough for daylight use.  I have the earlier version and find the optical quality very good for the price with the upgrade being about $130 more, both within your stated budget.  Seems plenty tough after 20 rounds on a .45-70 to test durability and several hundred rounds through two different piston ARs.  Several other forum members seem to like them as well.  Often available on The Sample List discounted and there is a package deal with SWFA S.. S. A. L. T. mount on the entry level model that saves a few bucks.

In that price range I like two scopes:  Hi-Lux/Leatherwood CMR4 1-4x24 and Vortex PST 1-4x24.

Burris MTAC 1-4x24 is pretty decent as well.

I'm liking the MTAC and PST.
What about some mounts? Can I expect a good mount in the $100.00 range that is a QD type and hold it's zero?

Be ready to spend closer to $200 on the mount.

Burris does make their P.E.R.P. one piece AR scope mount with 1" and 30mm rings in a quick release version for $95.  It is similar to the SWFA one piece S.A.L.T. mount.

I found a PST at academy sports today and looked through it. I couldn't pick up the reticle very well with both eyes open.

Smoking Bandit
I like the La Rue mounts for quick detach  AR.  The BOBRO is also a solid choice.  GG&G is a solid choice.
As for optics on an AR that depends on how you use the rifle. I very much like Aimpoint red dots and I like Trijicon compact ACOG and ACOG scopes the very best the size makes them quite handy.  There are some package deals on AR products   http://swfa.com/Optic-Packages-C4618.aspx
This is about as low cost as you can go:
Vortex 1-4x24 Crossfire II Rifle Scope Kit Vortex 1-4x24 Crossfire II Rifle Scope Kit

Why would that aimpoint cost so much? It offers less than those two scopes and costs twice as much.

Offers LESS magnification, but it's NOT a LESSER optic. Aimpoint is the gold standard in purely 1x optics, as far as I'm concerned.

SHORT VERSION:  Because it works.

Aimpoint red dot sights are manufactured with the greatest care and precision from the best materials and components available. They are designed for use in the real world, and can handle rough treatment and all imaginable weather conditions. With the variety of models available, there is an Aimpoint sight for virtually every type of firearm.

Aimpoint red dot sights are the original red dot sights. Aimpoints have the widest field of view, are 100% parallax free, and are waterproof and shockproof. You do not have to center the dot; you hit where you aim. They are available in two dot sizes; 4 minute of angle (M.O.A.)= 4" @ 100 yds for precision shooting and 2 minute of angle = 2" @ 100 yds in the 2x versions. Aimpoints have no eye relief so they work on handguns, rifles, or shotguns.

Aimpoint's electronic reflex sights are manufactured using a unique patented double front lens which eliminates the parallax error inherent in other red dot sights. This feature allows the shooter to get on target more quickly and shoot more accurately, because the dot does not need to be centered inside the sight; if the dot is on it, then you will hit it.

AS for the scopes. I looked through a VX r Patrol the other day and I could pick up the reticle both eyes open pretty easy. Went back and tried the PST again and still could not. Can anyone explain that one?

Leupold seems to have a more forgiving amount of eye relief than a lot of other brands.

No Problem. At first look when you see the price of other red dots it is hard to understand that you really are getting more value with Aimpoint.  Since they hold the patent to the best technology you pay more but you get more. Its really cool that you dont have to have the dot centered. The other thing that is really cool about them is that you can mount them forward like a scout scope and eye relief distance does not matter like it does with most scopes because it really is 1x.  With traditional optics cheek weld consistency having your head in the same place all the time makes a difference in accuracy.  With an Aimpoint you can be upside down rolling or running for cover and if the dot is on it that is where the bullet will strike.  This is why the U.S. Army uses the Aimpoint.

Urimaginaryfrnd, is correct.  Aimpoint is the king of 1x.  If you forget everything else, it is king for battery life.  Turn it on, leave it on, replace the battery after a couple years.

But, if you want 1x on the cheap (i.e. if you want to check out that kind of tech without spending alot of money), there are other options.  You may decide you hate 1x red dots, or may decide you want to buy the Aimpoint for serious work.
To be or not to be, that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them.
