I recently bought a BRNO A.S. VZ. 24, .308

This is not an old WWII version it is still a Mod98, but manuf in 2000 (according to the salesman) and has a modern hunting stock. I bought it used.  It appears to be in mint condition with perfect rifling.

I have been Googling like crazy for info and all I find is the old WWII version.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Will try to get a pic uploaded if it will help.

kuntry kid, thank you for your service and welcome to the OT. Try CZ USA, yours may be a model that's not exported to the US. I have a model 600 Brno that was made in the early 90's that's a great shooter. I think you'll be happy with your purchase. Mine is a .270.

Thank you for the reply.  Tomorrow I will send an email to the company and see what I get back.

I searched the following sites aside from the usual search engine stuff.  Several VZ models, but no 24.

Chances it's a European model that was not exported to the US..no problem it's a Mauser action and it will be OK!

Musgrave, the South African gun company, is building brand new VZ 24 Mauser rifles.

Actually the original Musgrave factory started by Ben Musgrave closed its doors in August 1996. A local buisnessman bought the name in 2009, and hired a gunsmith to start making rifles under the Musgrave name. I have heard of some quality control issues from people that have bought them, but I havent shot any of these rifles to confirm this. Prices are starting at $1700 for the Field model pictured above in standard calibres and $2300 for a magnum, and running up to $3900 for a exhibition grade in a standard calibre and $4400 for a magnum.
Regards Chris

It doesn't look quite like that.

It says Czech Republic on the barrel.  Can that have them made in South Africa and put their country on it?

Here is a pic of the one I just bought.

Yes, Glock, I knew they were expensive.  I didn't know Musgrave had changed hands.  I'd like to see one.

( You'll have to BUY ONE and tell us all about it!! )  Laugh

I emailed CZ in Czech Republic since I heard they owned BRNO now.  They sent me the below today.

"I have to inform you that we are Ceska zbrojovka a.s. and not Zbrojovka Brno. We were two individual companies.
Zbrojovka Brno went bankrupt in 2004 and the company which owns us decided to buy remnants of this company making it our subsidiary as Zbrojovka Brno s.r.o. But this subsidiary company has no rights to older products and their spare parts including technical documentation and intellectual property for products which were manufactured in the original and now defunct Zbrojovka Brno.
It is a pity but we are not able to be of any assistance with the model which was not made by our company.
The Vz. 24 is really so old that it was used in WW II."

I have to say the pic I posted above does not look anywhere near like the VZ 24 of WWII.

I believe Musgrave was building the above rifles using surplus VZ 24 actions.  Perhaps, Brno did the same thing before they folded.  Anyway, the VZ 24 is a very desirable Model 98 action for a custom gun.  I'd like to find one like you have!  I am going to order a walnut Numrich replacement stock for a Model 98 barreled action....will kinda look like yours....!!  Smile
