Great picture, Ted. Sepia tone makes it!! Excellent  I spent A LOT of time around Ft. Sumner in my younger years. Good town, good people. Worked on ranches west around Yeso, N.M. Sand, caliche, beargrass, mesquite, lots of big rattlesnakes. Good cowboy country. All the ranches neighbored real good. About 30 days of dragging calves. And some yearlings.

I've posted it before, but it definitely fits under the banner of antique.

I don't have any antiques that is with the exception of Mrs. Peddler. I do have a box of 45-70 ammo that's real old.
The box which was never opened is starting to fall apart. The method used to open the box is string under the seal. It says 45-70 Solid head UMC, Central fire Cartridges mfg. by The Union Metallic Cartridge Co.
US Government Standard Solid Head .45 cal., 70 grains powder and 500 grain bullet.

Skip, I think that box of 45-70 is an antique. I'm pretty sure the cartridge box collectors would be very interested in it.

I've got a few antiques myself, but I don't think I could compete with ILya's fun box.

Actually, it's tea! Big Grin I didn't have anything except fairly expensive liquor on hand, and didn't want to waste expensive booze just to take a pic when tea was the right color and you can't tell the difference for the purpose of the photo.

My wife's grandfather took it off a Nazi officer somewhere in Germany at the close of WW2.  He took some other stuff too, but that'll be another antique photo contest.  Most awesome among them: a Colt 455 revolver that a german tanker took off a british tanker, her grandfather took it back.  That is awesome!

Is the blade of that sabre engraved, and if so, do you know what it says?

Dad brought a very similar sabre back from the war. I took it to the Military Show of Shows and found a collector that spoke German and had him appraise and interpret the engraving for me. He said it was a ceremonial sword from WWI that was awarded to a Sgt. in an artillery unit. That's about all I can remember.

What's story behind this piece, Roy?

This was my grandfather's that I inherited when he passed away along with a Winchester 53 and a 52 Target 22lr.

Love the pic Ted.  It seems it is telling a story my guess is the story goes like this:

Sheriff:  "Alright Bill, you ain't a deputy no more.  I'll finish unloading that pistol fer ya, you just leave it with your badge and keys here, and get your drunk carcass out of my office!"

Haha! I like your story better than mine, Matt!

My thought for the pic's "story" was... after a particularly rough day, a frontier sheriff came in his office, threw his gear on his desk, emptied his pockets, removed his badge and said "the hell with this; I'm getting too old for this $#%!" Then, he poured himself a shot of whiskey as he contemplated what he'd do after retirement.
Ted
