Hey vets,
I just ordered a Bushnell DMR 3.5-21x50mm scope with mildot reticle for my LWRC IC. It's a flat top AR15. I was wondering if anyone had this scope and what mounts or rings they used for their rifle. Mine is a flat top AR and I was concerned about clearance of the front bell. I was looking at the new WARNE Ramp mount in 34mm but when I looked at my rifle it looks like the ramp will be either right over the forward asssit or by the ejection port. Anyone have this setup? All advice and input greatly appreciated. |

I use Aadmount almost exclusively and it works well with the 3.5-21x50 Bushnell.

Let me pose another question to you. I have the following scopes: 1. Trijicon 2.5-10x56 SFP 2. Bushnell 3.5-21x50 DMR FFP MILDOT 3. Swfa 5-20x50mm FFP 4. Swfa 1-6x illuminated FFP 5. Aimpoint T1 red dot with Prinary Arms 3x magnifier 6. Leupold 3-18x50 VX6 illuminated with B&C reticle What scopes would you mount on the rifles below: 1. Tikka Sporter 308 2. JP Enterprises PSC12 in 308 3. LWRC IC 556 14.9" barrel 4. Larue Tactical PredatOBR 308 5. Houston Armory Integrally Suppressed SBR 300 AAC Blackout 6. MSAR STG556 Bull pup (Steyr Aug clone) I use the Tikka for deer hunting and the STG 556 bull pup for home defense. The 300 AAC SBR is new and I envision using sub sonics for home defense and supersonics for hogs. The other rifles are for paper punching but I have used the AR 10's for deer hunting also. |

Aimpoint on the home defense gun.
Accupoint on the low light hunting rifle (Tikka?). SWFA 1-6x on the Blackout. SWFA 5-20X on the JP 308. Use the magnifier as a paper weight. Sell the Leupold and the Bushnell. Buy Elcan SpecterDR for the LWRC. ILya |

Forgot about the OBR.
Get another SS 1-6x24 or another Elcan.

I suppose I should qualify my suggestions somewhat.
Your LWRC is a 7lbs rifle (approximately). The Bushnell weighs two pounds. Add another half a pound or so for the mount. This becomes a bit of a question whether you are putting the scope on top of the rifle or attaching the rifle to the bottom of the scope. Bushnell DMR and SWFA SS basically fill the same niche and on balance I slightly prefer the SS. VX-6 3-18x50 is an excellent hunting scope with longish range inclinations. Since you never mentioned long range hunting, I assume that the simpler to operate Accupoint is a better fit for low light operation and typical deer hunting distances. For a home defence gun something like an Aimpoint is an excellent fit. The magnifier's primary function from what I have seen so far is to add unnecessary weight and get in the way. If you want magnification, get a scope. Larue OBR is wonderfully precise rifle for a semi-auto, but a large scope is not a good fit on that either. Something like the Elcan or the SS 1-6x24 is a good choice for it. If you want a little more magnification, there are plenty of nice scopes that top out at around 10x and I do not think this rifle needs more than that. ILya

Thanks Ilya.
The Elcan was never on my radar probably because of costs. From what I read it's a great scope and a perfect match for the LWRC. I JUST WISH I had seeked your advice before purchasing the DMR AND leupold. Given what I have and the fact that I don't want to sell and lose $$$. I think I will follow your advice. MSAR STG (Steyr Aug clone) with Aimpoint. Will sell 3x magnifier. Tikka Sporter - it's between the Accupoint and the Leupold. Use this as my bolt action deer gun hunting from stand with most shots between 100-150 yds. Which would you mount here? The JP has the SS 5-20x50mm already on it and I have punched paper out to 400 which is the max at my local range. The PredatOBR in 308 is brand new. Took 13 mos. to get. The sales rep from Larue recc the Bushnell DMR for the best scope for the $$$. I just ordered the DMR from SWFA. I will use this for deer and hog hunting. Not sure if I got good advice. This gun I imagine will weigh like a ton of bricks. Do you think I should put the Leupold on it instead? For the SBR, I have the SS 1-6x illum and this combo works well for me for home D and hog hunting. Given the choice between the two which would you mount on the LWRC ? The Accupoint or Leupold? |

Whatever advice I give you is just my opinion. If you have the scopes in hand, you should experiment a little and see what works for you. Perhaps your preferences are different from mine. The DMR is a nice scope, but it is really a mid-to-long range precision scope (a rather nice one). I am not sure why anyone would think it is a good option for a general purpose hunting scope. If you want to use the OBR for hunting both the VX-6 and the Accupoint are reasonable options. I am not a big fan of the B&C reticle in the VX-6, but you can make it work. I suppose a lot depends on what is easier to set up on the Tikka. If lower scope mounting is beneficial, the VX-6 can be mounted lower than the Accupoint, so perhaps the VX-6 should go onto the Tikka and the Accupoint onto the OBR. Weight-wise, these two scopes should be about the same. If you have (or plan to have) a heavy barrel pecision rifle, the DMR is a nice scope for that. Back when I tested that scope I thought it was very much at home on my Savage with a heavy 26 inch barrel. When I had it on a precision AR with an 18" barrel it made the generally decently handy rifle more than a little unwieldy. Lastly, for a rifle like the LWRC, consider a lighter weight scope: ILya

If you have not mounted the DMR I would see about returning it. SWFA is very good about that. You would only be out shipping. And on the Leupold you might see what it is worth on a trade with SWFA. Might not be as bad as you think. |
