And I'm dead serious when I say I plan to make that dream a reality sooner rather than later.

Anybody else interested in such a trip?

...I mean seriously, not just talking about it.

You better believe it!  If/when I hunt stags, it will be in NZ as you say, not some catch and release deal (no offense SM).

None taken, I think it would be great to go to NZ, how ever this caters to a local crowd.

Ted,

Keep in mind most of those NZ outfitted stag hunts are high fence too...

Any idea what size those ranches are over in NZ?  I wouldn't be interested in going that far to hunt a small place.

Many years ago, I wanted to do a fly fishing trip to NZ but my marriage  kinda got in the way. Not sure I could be in a plane that many hours these days. I seem to remember someone telling me it was around 30 hours of flight time.

I had a friend years ago who had a bunch of red stag on his ranch outside new braufels I shot a solid white fallow deer on that ranch.   Sorry Ted thats way out of my price range. Have fun and dont forget to take lots of photos. I always wanted to shoot an american buffalo that looks like good eating to me.

Yeah, I'm discovering that. There are a few outfits that aren't, but it does seem the majority are high fence.

I'm giving serious thought to doing it as early as possibly next year; certainly within the next 5 years, and I've been doing some research on the various outfitters. If anyone here would be interested in going with me and isn't just paying lip service to it only to back out on me at the last minute, let me know.

I can see you using Jedi mind trick now Ted.

Yes, in fact I'm using my Jedi mind tricks on you right now as we speak, Sky.

That's why right now you're in the process of ordering some nipple tassels with little dangling hearts, having them shipped to Chris at work, and thinking that's a great idea.

There's nothing to see here... move along.

Nipple = good!!! Unfortunately, all of my extra cash goes in to a 529 for my grandkids. As much as I'd love a NZ excursion, I think I'll pass. Perhaps an Alaska moose may still be in the equation. Time will tell. Hope I don't croak anytime soon!!!  Big Grin

Yo Skylar,

Your Stag hunt reminds me of that fishing trip you sold me on last year.

Sky...
Back on the stag hunt... do they remove the ear tag and bell collar before the hunt starts?

Which do you think is the more effective way to stalk that guy: belly crawling up to the fence and sticking your rifle muzzle through the bottom row of openings in the corral wire (so as to stealthily reduce your profile)... or waiting to sneak up on him while he has his head down in the bucket of Purina Stag Chow?

I have found that an aerial assault with bowie knife in mouth has the best tactical advatage for a steathly stalk.

Being able to manuever in the air silently over head would be the way, I would do it.

But if you are not in to the whole jumping out of perfectly good airplane thing, then what would you think about sneaking to a tree, climbing easily up, then decending inverted literally taking the bull by the horns.

Yeah, I can see that. As everyone who's met you can attest, you're known for being really aerodynamic.
