Guys,
I'm going to mount a VX-3 1.5-5x20 in quick-release mounts on a Model 70 Safari Express. My main goals are to get the scope as low as possible (cheek weld), and to have a rugged, bombproof setup that's usable with the rifle's iron sights. I'm looking at either the Leupold QRW or the Talley QR in low rings. I love the Talleys, but their low rings tend to be higher than other brands. For those who have this rifle/scope combo, what are your thoughts? |

I use Talley lows on a M700 in .375 H&H and I have no problems with cheek weld. My main scope is a Kahles 1.1-4 x 24 30mm tube and my backup is the 1.5-5 x 20 1 in. Leupold. The 30mm sits a bit higher in the low Talley's vs the 1 in. but I have never had a problem with picking up the scope or getting slapped in the face. The Talley are the best QD mounts I have ever used. I have them on several rifles.

Ive had several sets of quick release Leupolds all have failed. If it was mine I would use La Rue LT719 low rings but they are 30mm so you would either want reducers or to select a 30 mm scope. I would call SWFA and ask who makes a picatinny base for that rifle there may not be one.

I have Warne QD'S too. The Talley's are better. The quality of machining is superior, the fit and finish is excellent. For hunting rifles I don't believe you can do better in a QD than Talley's.

I have some Talleys sitting here for a Tikka but have not gotten around to buying a rifle for them to go on so I cant really comment on how well they return to zero the La Rue LT719 definately returns to zero very well. I really like the Warne Maxima rings but have never had the quick release version only the fixed.

Sounds like Talley is something to try! Just want to ask if anyone have tried the weaver grand slam lever lok? they are rally cheap, less than half the price of warne QD.
