Hi there,

I have a Sauer 80 (it's Sauer Colt in N. America) in 7 mm RM, it is a beauty, never seen a bolt working so smooth and I would like to pair it with a good scope. I have good deals on these two scopes: Kahles 3-12x56 C ill. p. and Zeiss Diavari 3-12x56 *T ill. ret. Both are 30 mm tube, used but in very nice condition. Even the price is the same on each. Anybody had them? Because I am from Hungary I will use it for night and low light hunting. Which one should I choose? Every opinion is well apreciated.
Thank you very much!
Merry Chritmas to Everybody and Happy New Year!!!
With respect,
C.

I've had the opportunity to get hands on with a number of "high end" scopes.  Between the two you mention, it is a matter of personal preference.  There is no better low light performance in a hunting scope than Zeiss Diavari, but I cannot tell the difference between it and the Kahles.  There may be some, but my eyes cannot detect it.  Either of these scopes is a magnificent addition to an "inventory".  Personally, I just don't know which one I would pick given your choices.  I would probably choose the Zeiss, but you cannot go wrong with the Kahles.

In your market, I would also take a look at the Nickel 3-12x56.  VERY nice.

Welcome to the OT, Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year to you...

Welcome to OT, Chreos!

Choose based on which reticle you prefer. Or, which is lighter, shorter, etc. Or, if the Zeiss is a newer version with "LotuTec" hydrophobic lens coatings, I'd probably go with it, since I value these new hydrophobic coatings. From a performance standpoint, they're as equivalent as two scopes from competing brands get.

Optically, neither is really better than the other. There will be subtle differences, and your eye may slightly prefer one over the other, but they are comparable enough that there won't be a consensus on which outperforms the other. Needless to say, both are superb.

Chreos, what are the two illuminated reticles you have the choice of. The glass in both are stellar, but the reticle may be the deciding factor. If the Zeiss is newer and has the LotuTec, this would add another factor. I would say reticle trumps all here, though.

I have both scopes you mention. If the price is the same for both I'd have to go with the Zeiss Diavari. As much as I like Kahles I don't see it holding value as well as the Zeiss. And even with their older coatings I think the Zeiss will hold up longer. And Zeiss customer service may be somewhat better if needed. Also if the Zeiss has target turrets and/or side focus it would add another plus. Let us know what you do.

the residual value off the zeiss maybe higher but at the end off the day if you can get a kahles a lot cheaper then go for that you will not be dissapointed.the one I have been offered is a older model and it has s/f and is a cracker..and at 450 pounds a steal its a minter
