I have a rem 700 police in 223 which I have a vortex viper pst 4-16x50 sfp on. I recently purchased a rem 700 police in 308 and I plan on getting a swfa 3-15x42 ffp here very shortly. Which scope for which rifle? Both rifles are for target shooting. The 223 is for ranges out to 500 yds and the 308 out to 800 yds. I am thinking of putting the vortex on the 308 because it is slightly more powerful but its sfp. I have never used ffp and so I have never experienced the advantages of ffp so I don't know if I should go with the slightly less powerful scope in ffp on the 308 or the 223.

Always, always, always run better glass over more magnification. I'd put the SS on the 800 yard gun.

I've not run them side-by-side, but the SS glass is better, yes?

I would put the SS on the 308 as well.

I vote the same as the others. I have had a Viper next to my SS, and the glass is better in the 3-15.
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

Agree with those above.  I've owned both scopes and the SWFA 3-15x is noticeably better in optics quality.

I had high hopes for the Viper PST, but just didn't care for it and sold it.  Odd since I like their 2.5-10x and 6-24x PST scopes.  The 4-16x was just a dud for me.

SS on the  .308
