Does anyone have any experience with Weaver scopes? I have a chance to purchase a N.I.B. Model 800704 'Classic Extreme' 2.5-10 x 50 rifle scope from a friend who no longer has a use for it. He is asking $300 for it. It has an illuminated reticle. It seems pretty bright and clear glass. I would mount it to a 30-06 Savage bolt gun. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't own a Classic Extreme myself, but several of the gents I shoot with bought one around 4 months ago.  However, their Extremes were a much higher power model and were for rifles mostly used for benchrest/long range type shooting.

Of the four bought (one gent got two), one had a problem with elevation adjustment out of the box.  It was quickly replaced with a new one by the seller.  Generally, they were happy with their Classic Extremes.  Only complaint they had was the eye relief on them.  They all agreed it had the longest eye relief they'd ever experienced in a scope.  Had to mount the scope as far forward on the receiver as they could.

The Weaver was better than the Schmidt & Bender Precision Hunter?

yep better to 3 sets off eyes I young. I for one was surprised considering the price off the Schmidt. the Schmidt has a 50 mill front lens and has more mag.the Schmidt was possibly the better built scope but the glass was not as good in low lightShocked
