Just trying to get feedback on optics for my 308 AR build the pickings are slim Got the SFWA 1X6 and a Leupold VXR patrol on my 223's but I am looking for a little more power for the 308
Got a Nikon Monarch X 2.5 X 10 but the dials are 1/4 MOA and I am ready to retire it to something else. Considering the following: 1. Night Force 2.5 X 10 TMR with Mil and Zero stop 2. US Optics 1.8 X 10 with either the MIL GAP or JNG Mil reticle 3. Vortex Viper PST 2.5 X 10 with MIL reticle OR if there is another option out there I am all ears Thanks John |

Intended use, and do you want SFP or FFP? Price range too?

SFP of FFP question is interesting. My SFWA 1 X 6 is the first FFP scope I have bought and in the AR 15 platform it seems to be a winner. But have not really run it through it's paces yet. In the 3 Guns I have shot I think it will surpass My Leupold VXR Patrol. My "issue" M4 Had an Aimpoint on it and worked great in an urban environment and out to @ 100 yards (Had to hand in my MP5 a long time ago Best CQB weapon I have ever had). With that said with the 308 I do not really know as yet. I know I want to reach out farther than the 223 so the ability to wind correct with the turret is important. the weight and overall length with even the 18 inch barrel puts it out of a truly useful CQB rifle. I have not seen an FFP in the 2 X 10 category> I do know I want no higher than 2 power on the bottom end. Got rid of a 4.5 X 14 Mark 4 as it really didn't work for me and it has a 2.5 X 10 Nikon Monarch X on it now but it is 1/4 MOA on the turret. I want a more compact scope with MILS. My friend has a 2.5 X 8 Leupold on his, but I hate the MLR reticle on it. The only time these are on the bench is to sight in and for handload development. I think of the 308 as a DMR more than any other application
Thanks for feedback John |

As already suggested, the SS 3-9x would serve you well.

March has a 1-8x26,but I'm not real familiar with it. ILya Koshkin could probably give you all the details about it.
IOR makes a 1-10 FFP that meets your needs, but it is 28-32ounces. It is a FFP reticle with an illuminated dot in the SFP. There is also a 1.5-8 FFP IOR, and a 1-10 SFP IOR.

If you are OK with a 2.5-10x32 scope, the little Vortex 2.5-10x32FFP is a gem of a scope. I am testing one and it is superb.
If you want a little more magnification, get the SWFA SS 3-15X42 with their 3-9X42 being another solid option (wider FOV in exchange for magnification). Under $1K these are your best options. If you are willing to spend, more your options open up some. ILya

John you mention DMR role if you are LE or MIL and it really is being used tactically with the blessing of the agency they may or may not have requirements you must meet. I really like the U.S. Optics 1.8-10 but by the time you get there you could be into any of the Nightforce scopes including the ATACR which is a big step up from their other scopes. A lot depends on how important size is to you because if you can suffer the larger scopes I know I personally really like to have the top end in the 15 to 20 range and the bottom end as low as possible but certainly 5x or under. Have you given consideration to illumination and if so it that a must? As was mentioned the SS 3-9x42 is a rather moderate size scope that has high quality glass and the mil quad reticle seems to be a nice choice at a really low price. If on the other hand you could live with a limited amount of internal adjustment I would strongly consider this (but of the options you mentioned the US Optics would be my pick):
