In South Africa we have a discipline of competitive shooting called field target shooting. Essentially the targets (life sized animal prints or 8 inch steel gongs) are set up in the field at unknown distances. The maximum distance is pegged at 400yds.
The shooter is then confronted with a pre-determined shooting position using natural obstacles such as a tree, rock, bare soil, bush etc and given between 45 sec and 120 min to take 5 shots at the target. There are 6 lanes with a different lay-out to each lane.
This type of shooting is not easy. No spotter, range finder or wind meters are allowed.
Well, enter Dave Tubbs... he attended one of our shoots as as a guest last year but did not do to well.
This year he came prepared and ended second! (It will take a lot to beat a boertjie in his own back yard!!)
So well done to him. He beat some pretty good locals who have done this type of competition for years.

I think David Tubb has some weird ideas on equipment and topics like "barrel break-in," but nobody can argue with his results when he's in his element. He's a shootin' SOB, and I have no doubt if he dedicated time to any new shooting discipline, he'd soon be very competitive, if not dominate.

Not quite a redneck. "Dutchman" is more of a name we use for a "redneck"
Boer or boertjie is literally translated as "farmer".
We use the term boer or boertjie in a more proudly South African manner. Calling Americans Yankees is more the equivalent of a boertjie.
So a Yankee cannot beat a boertjie !!!!

Well, you gotta watch what part of the country you call someone a Yankee. If up north, it will convey a sense of thrift, resourcefulness and pride. But down south it has a more negative meaning. Out west, nobody really cares because, for the most part, historically and in the present, they wanted to leave all that behind. Except few people are fans of the baseball Yankees...overpaid and overjuiced.
As for redneck, some are proud of it, some are derisive.

It is the same with the term "Boer". Some (mostly the Afrikaner) like it, the English speaking not and the blacks do not qualify.
But if someone has done well or won and you say" Boertjie or Yankee, well done you are an amazing guy... he will love the term!!!" You can also turn it around and say" Only a stupid boertjie or Yankee will do that... then the person will take exception to the term I guess.
