Hello
I am looking at getting my first nice scope and have decided on the swfa 3-15x42. It will be going on a savage model 10 flip-k ( left handed). What is your opinon on the scope and type of base and rings? Should I get a 20moa base?

I think it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and do a 20moa base from egw. Its not entirely necessary though as the SS has tons of elevation adjustment (36 mils) and depending on caliber/velocity and BC, should get you way way way out there. 18 mils of elevation will dial my 30-06 180gr SST's to 1400y with a 100y zero. IMO, the SS 3-15 is the most versatile scope on the market under $1000.

I say "yes". If you want a rail, then get a 20 MOA. As stated, the SS does indeed have plenty of adjustment, but if you ever change the SS out with a scope with LESS adjustment, you already have 20 MOA in the rail to help things out. The rail stays with the rifle.
Make sense?

No downside to having a 20 MOA base
My 700 has an EGW heavy duty aluminum base.
It has had countless scope and ring changes and has held up extremely well.

Thanks for all your replies . Sounds like everyone likes egw bases. How about rings? I read a lot of good things about seekin ,Burris , and swfa rings. Has anyone used swfa rings?

I have the scope and like it.

On rings, I have used SWFA rings as well as the Seekins, buy either with confidence.  I like that the SWFA rings comes with 1" spacers in case you want to mount a 1" tube scope - or in case you ever might.

I have not used Burris rings, but several around here have.

Of the high quality rail systems I believe that the Talley is the best value.
Of the rings that are available If I am not using Badger Ordnance or La Rue I tend to use Warne rings which have worked really well for me and are about half the price of everything else. I also really like the Talley one piece ringmount and use that on hunting guns. There are lots of good choices for rings..
but you get what you pay for. These are really sturdy dont think you could go wrong with these:

The one and only pair of burris rings i have used were the XTRs, my experience with them was less than satisfactory, which it could have just been the misplacement of the stop in one of the rings but that was enough for me. I have not used seekins or the swfa rings but i purchased some Talley light weight rings based on other members of this forums' opinions and i must say i couldn't be happier. If you go without a canted rail i would highly recommend the Talleys.
